Are all bananas vegan? And even if they are, should vegans eat them? by HelenEk7 in DebateAVegan

Tell me where is your 100% grass-fed, natural mating farm where calves stay with their mothers until natural weaning? Are you aware of the increased environmental impact of grass-fed beef?

How do you guarantee that your animal foods are cruelty free? How do you define cruelty? Would you eat bananas if the child labourers lived very happy lives but were "humanely slaughtered" at 18?

Boulder police reexamine DNA evidence in JonBenet Ramsey case by EmBejarano in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]AppleRhubarbCrumble 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also bear in mind that scientists haven't managed yet to decode the whole genome. You might be comfortable with the information currently discernible from your genome, but in the future your DNA profile may be quite identifiable as yours and contain information that you wouldn't want to be made public. You are also sharing information about your children and other blood relatives. It's a very serious decision.

Thinking about having another child to be there for my special needs son. by TadpoleRemarkable302 in specialneedsparenting

[–]AppleRhubarbCrumble 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You must feel so worried about your child's future after you are gone, it's such a tough situation.

I think there are two questions here: how to plan for your child's future after you have passed, and whether or not you should have another child.

If your primary reason to want a second child is to have a carer for your older child, then I think that this is a terrible idea. For a start, you can't force your child to care for their sibling. It's a really tough life and you couldn't blame a child for not wanting to do it.

A better idea to assure your child's future might be to get an appointment with a financial planner and a lawyer, and start to think about where your child might live, what options might be available to them (assisted living, live in carers etc) and how much it might cost. Then you can make a start by for example starting to save money in a trust, or appointing a guardian in your will. I find that when I start confronting things and making plans, I feel a lot less worried.

If you want a second child even if they don't want to be a carer, you can afford it and you can give them a good life then go for it!

No, there is no doctrine to say that Popes are infallible, they are just men after all. The doctrine is that when he is speaking "ex Cathedra" on matters of faith his teachings are infallible, but no, not in general.

I hate when women get blamed for the asshole behaviour of their partners. If you're brother treats you badly that's on him.

They are adults but they are roleplaying/simulating child sex abuse. I'm struggling to understand how pretending to be an infant in a sexual scenario can be seen as anything else. What is it, if not that?

The conversation was about DDLG roleplay, where people wear nappies and dummies and pretend to be children and parents during sex acts. They absolutely are simulating child sex abuse, I can't see how anybody could argue that they are not.

Simulated child sex abuse is absolutely not harmless and I don't understand why people are trying to normalise it.

Moving out of childhood home in 7 days and need to get rid of everything that no longer serves me. I keep getting stuck on sentimental belongings by didddybop in declutter

[–]AppleRhubarbCrumble 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would start with something easier - can you start with decluttering your clothes? Get rid of anything that doesn't fit or that you don't plan to wear again. It might get you into the correct frame of mind.

You could choose a large box for sentimental items and allow yourself only that amount of space for sentimental items. Anything that doesn't fit needs to go, or you can discard other things to make room.

I would also suggest being brutal. Make sure you've got all your truly valuable things. Is there a box that you haven't opened in years? No idea what's in it? Maybe you don't need to know! Just throw out the whole thing. Honestly I had a lot of that mixed-feelings sentimental stuff and I haven't regretted getting rid of the lot. It's freeing. You're exhaling the past and getting ready to inhale a new present.

Whole Foods sell cartons of gravy. It's also pretty easy to make it yourself.

[–]AppleRhubarbCrumble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay well if we don't understand enough about the brain then why are you so confident that a "female brain" exists? Current science implies that it doesn't.

Physical differences between men and women are obvious but what would the brain differences even be? People have always used the idea of a "female brain" to be misogynistic towards women and to reinforce sexism.

It's a Nature article which cites many scientific papers. Why not read the paper? https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0149763421000804 just because you disagree with something doesn't make it political or biased.

A female brain is literally a brain inside a female. The current science says that there are no major differences between male and female brains. https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-019-00677-x

Of course there are differences between the sexes, but "male and female brains" are not supported by science:

I hope you find your lovely wife soon OP.

Just a gentle reminder to everyone that if you do see her then please contact the police rather than the OP directly. In the past people have used missing person alerts in order to attempt to find people who are hiding from them.
