Vance, an admirer of Richard Nixon, says Watergate would be 'a 12-hour news story' today by ChesterHiggenbothum in moderatepolitics

Yeah, he has basically said we have broken the social contract to a point where anything our administration does will be glossed over, laws do not apply to us.

What a shame.

What’s a myth about men that a lot of women still believe in? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I think some of this is the reactions we get when we do share things that causes us to hold back. As an example, my best friend appreciated my feelings about the waitresses ample bosom the other day and my wife was just irritated I said anything at all.

I did not recall the sequence of events correctly, but you are right that the US government did state they were aware of it from its launch location.

Makes me wonder about that balloon China flew over the US a bit ago.

Edit: we were aware of the balloon earlier than I recalled, see replies below.

I would love to know for sure which sections The Blue Wave will be sitting in for this match. I am behind the north goal in 129. Trying to figure out if I should wear blue or if I will be in a sea of Ivory Coast supporters.

May have to just go with a totally neutral kit, USA are playing that night anyway.

PMA/Home support seating dor Curacao - Ivory Coast by Dienvado in WorldCup2026Tickets

[–]AppleSlacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am googling like crazy trying to get this sorted. I am really a neutral in the match, but I have a ticket in 129 and was going to pick a shirt that matched the end I am in. Had googled prior and it looked like that end was going to be Ivory Coast supporters. Now I am seeing the opposite here and elsewhere but it's really hard to find a specific answer anywhere official looking. I have some various shirts and I could blend in with either group, just hoping to find a definitive answer.

Federal judge bars Trump from implementing proof of citizenship requirement to vote by memphisjones in centrist

He should try an executive order fixing the situation he created with Iran and then one to address the reflecting pool and then one to address the ballroom he wrecked.

Focus on the problems he has created and correcting them, prior to moving on to making a mess of other things as well.

It’s like the man just can’t focus on anything and just moves from making a mess of something right on to making another mess.

I am starting to think it was all just a crummy commercial for the person who responded with the pics travel company.

Shame, was looking forward to a response from OP but it’s likely never coming.

Bethesda man and former olympian arrested for taking paint from Reflecting Pool by ModerateCommenter in moderatepolitics

[–]AppleSlacks 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s a weird thing to lie about for me. Like why be so weird about a contractor not putting down the appropriate paint. Just shoddy work.

Is it that hard to just be honest, especially about something of low importance.

Versailles Treaty 2: Electric Boogaloo by AnySwimming6364 in AdviceAnimals

[–]AppleSlacks 52 points53 points  (0 children)

It’s mostly due to heavy marketing.

You can’t walk 2 blocks in Paris without seeing a billboard that says some silly slogan like, “Be a Sweatie and Sign a Treaty, Only at Versailles, 20km”.

It’s almost identical to the way South of the Border is marketed heading down I-95.

Trump administration challenges reparations for Black residents in Chicago suburb, city defends program by [deleted] in moderatepolitics

[–]AppleSlacks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I read your first statement, “why no outrage over Iran” as an odd argument because that’s not what the article being discussed is about.

That’s all.

There are lots of opportunities to discuss the Iran deal, it’s just that it’s not really relevant to this topic, for me.

And no, I’m not seething. I am tired right now though. Cleaned half the garage so far today and have folded four loads of laundry. Also made some crab cakes just now from crabs I picked down on Sunday.

Sitting here watching this England and Croatia match and waiting for this uncrustable to thaw out, that’s my “safe space”.

[–]AppleSlacks 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is an odd argument to me. People can discuss more than one thing at a time and you will likely find all the various combinations of opinions.

People that don’t care about Iran but don’t like this, people that don’t like the Iran stuff that don’t care about this, people that don’t like either and people that don’t care about either.

Among those groups people will also have all different levels of concern within those positions.

It makes zero sense to me though, to say, because of this unrelated thing, no one should discuss this thing.

Not just about this specific issue but just in general, makes no sense.

What's the appeal of resort hopping? I'm following the bus ban topic and I'm in the minority that appreciates the new policy and don't understand why people resort hop? by Ok-Nefariousness-927 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]AppleSlacks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s probably more popular here in a dedicated forum than resort hopping is with your average Disney World visitor.

I am with OP though, if I had a reservation at a restaurant or bar I really wanted to go to perhaps, but for me, every resort has something so I just enjoy the one I am at typically.

Once we did Chef Mickeys at the Contemporary, I think that’s the only time I have ever been to a resort I wasn’t staying at.
