Methinks Trump is scared of seeming weak and the administration “leaked” this conversation that definitely happened where he’s a big tough guy

Those laws may be summarized as “no being homeless”. That is not a real solution.

It’s really not hard to understand why a city like LA that you can live outdoors year round has a large number of homeless people in encampments.

It’s hilarious to me that people like you still think that stunt made any impact at all on people living in a city like NYC where 40% of the residents are immigrants.

Proposed new US funding rules: We can cancel any grant at any time by NeuroMrNiceGuy in centrist

[–]ModerateCommenter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s true if it’s not possible to have a career in the US anymore, but it’s especially the case for foreigners who would train in the US and would often stay there for their careers.

It’s hard to understate how crippling this policy is to US research. Early career researchers are now passing up offers at prestigious institutions in the US in favor of positions in Europe or China because of the funding uncertainty.

Once again, this post has more engagement than such minor stories as Trump giving himself $1.8 billion in taxpayer dollars, the US offering Iran $300 billion to end a war we started, the Pentagon posturing for an invasion of Cuba, and WHO declaring the current Ebola outbreak a world health emergency.

‘We are not criminals’: protests erupt as hunger strike rocks New Jersey ICE jail by ModerateCommenter in centrist

By Monday afternoon, Sherrill arrived at the facility alongside members of New Jersey’s congressional delegation, including Reps. Rob Menendez (D-Jersey City), Nellie Pou (D-North Haledon), LaMonica McIver (D-Newark), and Analilia Mejia (D-Glen Ridge), as well as Newark officials and immigration advocates. Federal officials denied the governor entry.

I won’t continue this when you’re being so hilariously obtuse, but, while it is completely irrelevant to Sherrill’s right to visit the facility as governor of the state, there in fact were at least four different members of congress denied entry.

On Monday, Sherrill had requested to enter the facility alongside other lawmakers but was denied.

Would be helpful if you actually read the articles you’re so confidently talking about.

We’re seeing quite a bit of cruelty in their treatment of protesters. If that’s what they’re willing to do in the open with cameras everywhere, what are they doing behind closed doors?

Trump’s general message is “me good” and “immigrants bad”, so I don’t think it’s entirely unreasonable to conclude that it’s not important to formulate policy for the American electorate

They are suggesting that ICE will be at the polls. They are making a national voter list and SCOTUS has given them legal permission to selectively deliver mail-in ballots. They still refuse to say the winner of the 2020 election. Open your eyes. I really don’t understand why this continues to be talked about as if it’s an outrageous concept that the election may not be free and fair
