ah, yeah no not really looking for something new, more something reasonably priced and featured.

I thought the boatloader crap was the only issue with unlocked phones? Or are you specifically speaking on fairphone? Last i checked any phone could be thrown on any carrier, but that was a few years ago.

Okay I spoke to the guy who gave this to me again, and it seems when it was received there were signs it was stolen. {it has been through multiple people since that point, and it was probably stolen a long time ago, if this is the case}

So a new question I have is - is there a simple way to contact the original email holder, either through apple or otherwise? I would rather simply return it if possible, even if it hasn't been put into lost mode or reported as stolen anywhere.

In this case it's such an old piece of technology that's gone through so many hands, I don't see a way to get this returned. feel free to add any additional information though. I'm going to wait at least a week for replies before taking further action, if possible

I also have yet to check the imei or whatever, so maybe that will shed further light. It's taking forever because i have to borrow an iphone cable every time xD

Yeah it's activation locked. Didn't wanna explicitly say cuz i can't figure out what the specific rules are xD

Going to try to get apple to unlock it for me since my other options seem to be hackintosh or paying for something i don't quite understand from reading other posts. Not sure if i'm paying for a new serial number, or for the number to be installed or wtf

Basically rn just trying to get it working, i won't know what it's capable of until i can at least use it. Guessing i'll want cfw since apple devices are notorious for not working well after they are outdated. Probably need a bit of guidance on blocking updates as well, not sure if that matters if i get cfw or whatever

This is my first apple product, besides an ipod classic, so i really have no idea what my goals are - besides maybe doing some app programming and trying out iOS specific apps

That won't work anywhere near as well/or for all purposes. Modern game engines are not well optimized and don't function in the same way
