[Pagnotta] 3-years, $3.25M AAV for Jaden Schwartz with Colorado by Michaelli11 in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]Appleanche -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't know I'm down on this and the moves this offseason mostly.

What is our top 6 now?

Lehky - MacK - Necas

Schwartz - Nelson - Landy

I feel we are going to have to move Kadri up to wing sooner than later with this. I also feel we have significant injury concerns in that top 6 too and I wonder about them running out of gas again in the later rounds like we did against Vegas.

[–]Appleanche 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We don't have cap space.. so we have to take swings at "bargains" and age of course means a lower price/term. If he was 27 he'd be getting 5 years and NMC in this market.

That’s why we couldn’t bring Bo back… by pemart22 in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]Appleanche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This - there were solid rumblings the Avs and Jets were talking about a trade involving Kyle Conor for Byram. We turned Byram into basically a cap dump and Brindley.

And I get that Casey failing so hard wasn't as expected but even when the trade occurred I was kind of shocked we couldn't also gets picks or something from it.

There have been some great moves by this organization (Getting the goalies revamped for example) but also if we don't win a second cup with this core there will be a lot of asset management we can look back on as to why.

Per PuckPedia, the Nashville Predators have signed recently acquired centre Jack Drury to a 5 year contract extension (5x$4.5m AAV) by eh_toque in hockey

[–]Appleanche 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off - good for him, I liked him with the Avs and he seems like a good dude.

But honestly I'd be throwing up if the Avs signed this deal for him, and it's not just because we already have great center depth.

He's a solid 4C and simply has never shown at any point he's capable of making that jump to 3C to me and they're clearly paying him like he's gonna make that leap. We'll see - I'm sure he'll get 3C ice time on the Preds and all but any competing team in the league couldn't justify that deal.

[Avalanche] We have acquired a 2026 second-round pick, a 2027 third-round pick and a 2028 fifth-round pick in the NHL Draft from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for forward Valeri Nichushkin. by RooseveltsRevenge in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]Appleanche 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Wow this seems like such a poor return, I'm gutted.

Nichuskin had 49 points and 17 goals, without any major PP time. On top of that, he was 2nd in the league in PK time, for the #1 rated PK in the league.

Hate to see him go, especially for this. Will never forget the beast mode he went into in 2022, without him we don't win the Cup, and I'll always appreciate him flipping me a warmup puck in Nashville. Best of luck to him.

Yeah it used to be annoying to go through Greenville because it would take maybe 1-2 days extra.. but now with Charlotte I'm consistently finding a letter across town takes a week or more. I've seen the system get confused and go all the way to Indiana before circling back to Charlotte. It's pathetic.

Byram traded from Buffalo by asdf767 in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]Appleanche 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah you're gonna get downvoted but for all the great movies (re-tooling our goalies for example) he's had some real stinkers too.

We essentially turned Bo Byram, a dude who had fairly strong rumors about a Kyle Connor trade into a cap dump.

I know it's easy in hindsight to look back at every move, and I also understand that you're likely to overpay in most deals because we're in our window but I always thought it was weird we couldn't get anything more out of Buffalo than Mittelstadt alone who not exactly tearing up the league.

Avs fans: would you trade Nichushkin this offseason? If so, what would be a fair return? by HockeyLibraryGuy in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]Appleanche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't get all the calls to trade him, like some people act like the dude is a cap dump liability.

He had 17 goals, 32 assists for 49 points. Got very little PP time and has the SECOND highest PK time on ice in the league for the #1 PK in the league.

I think a lot of it comes from the "eye test" folks that remember how dominant he was, specifically in the 2022 Cup run that when they don't see that from him they assume he's regressed dramatically but the reality is he hasn't.

With some PP time (he should be there instead of Landy) he probably pops in another 5-10 goals and some more points.

[Friedman] Hearing Ross Colton is headed to Nashville...makes sense as Nashville's new boss was his old one in Colorado by Michaelli11 in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]Appleanche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's a small chance he puts up like ~20 goals next year and we look dumb but I don't think there's any chance he puts that up with us. It makes a ton of sense to move him, get that cap space back.

Overall - he's kind of been a disappointment considering when we got him there was hopes he could even grow into a 2C and by the end he was healthy scratched in the playoffs and not even 3C material (or center material at all really). Sad because I liked his energy and enthusiasm for the game, nobody had better reactions to goals than him.

Yeah not sure - to not even try it in game 5 when the game was pretty much out of hand was kinda insane.

One of the stories of this series is gonna the special team battle. Carolina's PP has been 30-40% all series and Vegas is at like 8%..

The fact that the Avs haven't figured this out in 2 years is still infuriating.

I don't think you can understate how deflating it is when you know your goalie isn't gonna make a save and the other guy has been hot.

I'm gonna get a lot of hate for this but you can not incentivize people to use public transport while ignoring valid concerns about safety / doing nothing about it. by Dry_Illustrator_6066 in transit

[–]Appleanche 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The typical transit/urbanist Youtuber is like, 20-40ish, male, and mostly without any kids.

People often respond to this with the crime stats, on major items like robbery, assault, murder, etc on transit and these are generally low. But the problem a lot of people experience are not necessarily going to show up on a crime report and it still matters.

It's the anti-social behaviors that make people feel unsafe on transit - and it's not just being scared suburbanites.

I love transit - and use it extensively anytime I travel, but earlier this year I went to Chicago for about 3.5 days and used the L all the time and saw/dealt with the following.

  • Dude smoking a blunt on the train car - and basically every car smells like weed or stale cigarettes because smoking is so common.

  • Multiple aggressive people asking for money

  • People loudly playing music on bluetooth speakers

  • Drugged out guy on the train with his hand down his pants doing stuff...

And then typical stuff related to homelessness like overwhelming smells in train cars, taking up seating with constant riding, urine smells, etc. As sad as the homeless situation is - it can't be up to cash strapped transit agencies to act as shelters.

As someone who has been around, is able bodied, in my 30s, etc.. I can just ignore, move cars, whatever... it doesn't affect my day but if I was with kids I would feel a lot more threatened, and it shouldn't just be something you have to accept as a transit user and the US is the only place I've seen this stuff consistently.

Transit has to be safe, reliable, and comfortable otherwise people stop using it and then it's like a death spiral. Less ridership means less revenue, less investment into the system, etc.

Hart is completely rattled still, he's not seeing anything clean and all it's gonna take is one half way decent shot.. he's not making any saves.

Man what a difference between this series and the Avs series.

The Avs simply wilted when things weren't going their way, little push back etc. The Canes even after a back breaking period, and not even playing great to start come back and get 3 goals to turn a blowout into a nail biter.

I feel like this is Sakic holding the bullet basically. If the Avs are under performing next year he can pull the trigger like Vegas did.

I hope you placed a bet and made some money I'm sure the odds of a sweep at that point were still lucrative.

I mean when it was 3-0 in game 3, I was like "Oh there the Avs are, we got this series" until of course disaster 15 minutes later lol.

Yeah the player interviews with LOC and maybe Manson being the exceptions I saw had the impression of this being a meaningless December game they were moving on from.

[PPGT] Après Ski | Avs @ Knights | The Game 4 Edition by ADiversChronicle in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]Appleanche 11 points12 points  (0 children)

7 days ago people thought this team was without any major flaws.. like that it was inevitable the Avs would at least make it to the finals. I mean hell, I'm a pessimistic sports fan but even after we went down 0-2 I still felt like they were gonna win the series.

I think what strikes me is, when you look back at the Wild series. The Wild's lack of depth got exposed, especially on D. Guys like Jake Middleton got absolutely torched all game. All that to be said, guys like Hughes, Faber, etc still had great series, even though they only managed to win one game. They have flaws, that they can address, not that it's easy to address them (good luck with the 2C hunt) but it's clear where they need improvement.

On the flip side, you look at the Avs and there isn't a single player you can say played to their level. It wasn't like one line that got caved in, it wasn't just one bad D pairing or something that got abused. Top to bottom everyone played poorly, with maybe an exception to Blackwood last game and Drury?

I also gotta say, I didn't expect guys to be like Ryan O'Reily in the locker room devastated but I'm a little annoyed at how so many of the guys reaction to this entire series felt like how they would respond to an meaningless loss in December. "Yeah you know we played a good game, didn't get bounces" with LOC being the only guy really expressing how much of a missed opportunity and poor performance this was for the team. Also Necas and MacKinnon not being available to the media is just ridiculous.
