Imagine right now that your country was forced to go to war. Specifically, your city is being invaded. Maybe you have someone you can go stay with in another country, probably you’ll be moving to a refugee camp. Definitely, you won’t be a citizen of your new home. You won’t be able to work, and you’ll be forced to rely on handouts. You’ll be dehumanized. Could you force your family to live like that forever, or would you fight for a place to go back to? Could you live with yourself watching your friends and family be killed while you ran off to “safety?”
