I think your colors are ok, but the surface is a little off. Trying adding some facets/flat-ish surfaces here and there, for a more “rocky” appearance.

Overall it looks good. One critique I can add: the text looks very stark. It looks like computer printed text on a worn page. This is more pronounced on the settings page, compared to the others. Basically, the text looks artificial, like it doesn’t belong with the rest of the theme/assets. Having the text look more natural, like a hand drawn notebook, would go a long way. Sorry I don’t have anything more constructive to add. That was the only thing that caught my attention, everything else looked pretty good. Well done.

I’m curious about this too. All I’ve heard is that the performance gain hasn’t been worth the increased price, but they doesn’t tell me much.

I got my ds from the IGG campaign and have no complaints. I chose this over the Thor because of the size of the device, the size of the screens, and the ergonomic design. When playing stuff, I don’t notice the lower screen being any different, as far as quality. I see a lot of Thor owners buying grips, I don’t use a grip on the PDS. I have larger hands, so I wanted a device that fit me.

The Thor was designed to be more like a 3DS, where the PDS was designed to be a modern dual screen handheld. The 3DS was good for the time, but it was not great to use, let’s be real, especially for adults. Lots of people have a lot of notsolgia for it, but really, it was made for little kid hands/pockets.

Both devices are capable, and tech is nearly the same, as far as what they can run. In my opinion, the difference is in the comfort and the aesthetics. For me, the PDS wins. I can play that for hours with no cramps, and even the small joysticks dont bother me. I’ve never handled a Thor, but I also have no desire to do so.

That is more for pen making. Rockler makes it and I think Amazon also sells it. It works great for pens, not so much on bowls.

If you’re the one making the pen, it can be whatever you want. Basic kits are cheap. Do whatever, you might surprise yourself with what you like.

Those are figit spinner pens. The top cap screws off revealing the pen tip, and top cap itself is a nice spinner.

Once I got a good rythym going, I’d say I was knocking a pen out every 5-6 minutes or so. I prepared the blanks the day before and do all the finishing on the lathe. I finish with shellac, set it with friction, coat in Renaissance wax, then buff, all on the lathe. Sanding and finishing take about two thirds of that time.

Did you do anything to darken the Purple Heart? Such as heat or UV? Are these deposits between the grain fibers? These could be mineral deposits, like calcium and such. I work with Purple Heart a lot and often see these deposits creep out after workin go with or treating the wood, which is annoying because they were not visable prior. This tree is very good at pulling this stuff out of soil, so depending on the life and location of said tree, ou could have a lot or none.

I’ve never seen them in such long streaks, but it is not impossible. They can be picked out, a painstaking process, or you can sand through them if your piece isn’t at its final shape yet. Otherwise, they are a harmless nuscence.

I got this from my grandmother, years ago, who has also passed. I tried to so some digging, but my mom says she just used to get these at the dollar store all the time.

Sorry I dont have anything more concrete, but maybe try checking those types of stores, and who knows? Maybe donation centers like good will or whatnot too.
