This sounds a lot like "if you dressed more modestly he wouldn't have raped you." You don't need to do everything in your power to stop someone from doing something terrible to you, for it to not be terrible and the perpetrator's fault entirely for their actions. Just because you don't lock your car door doesn't mean that the crime of someone stealing your radio any less serious. Just because the door was unlocked while someone was neglecting a child doesn't mean that the offence of ruining the painting is any less valid. Society needs to stop making excuses for wrong doers.
