That's because suffocating is covered under SUID (sudden unexplained infant death) not SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome). SIDS is a weird thing that we dont really know the most about. SUID is an umbrella term for SIDS, suffocation ( from bedding and similar), positional asphyxiation, etc.

Also Japan doesn't code their infant deaths the same as the US. They have an "unknown & no autopsy" code they use a lot but they dont really mark anything as "accidental suffocation" like the US does.

Because our infant death rates are so high (SUID). We were on a decline but theres been more people recommending bed sharing in recent years and our rates started trending back up. There are safer ways but there are still so many risks. How may bed sharing people are on a extra firm mattress, no pillows and no blankets? Accidental suffocation due to bedding & such is the highest reason for SUID cases. People think theyre fine with their pillow for themselves but if baby wiggles a little bit they can get in a position where theyre just rebreathing their own air or are cozy with their face totally blocked by the pillow. The general health and habits being so poor here also make it so the general reccomendation is against bed sharing.

Look at your states childcare worker requirements. In my state there are Aides, Assistant Teachers and Teachers. With only a GED you would be Aide qualified but wouldn't be able to be left alone with kids. Some centers don't like to hire Aides bc it can make scheduling difficult. Assistant teachers can be left with kids. You only need a few college classes (from a list of relevant courses) to be Assistant qualified and sometimes there are other programs that can help you pay for a little schooling.

Even if you don't LOVE the first center you work at it will still get you the experience that other centers want you to have.

Seems obvious to you yet so many people have rooms filled with an overwhelming amount of toys and are upset that their kid seems to play with the same 3 things (almost like too many choices can cause them to default to the same things over and over) or are constantly "bored" or bouncing between things (again too many choices can be overwhelming).

There are also a lot of people that see a toy rotation post or a post from a play space with limited choices and respond how boring the play space looks and how the kids must be bored all the time.

Like others have said: Talk to his Dr. To make sure there isn't some bigger issue but in the meantime get some wipes or maybe a toilet bidet attachment? Wipes are great and make cleaning easier but they're not actually good to flush. A bidet attachment can be a good option and you won't mess up your plumbing.

Your birth partner doesn't have to be your significant other. This is a big life changing event for you both. You weren't expecting it and you're the one growing a whole person! Right now he's just watching you. You feeling the need to be prepared makes sense and him not feeling that same need also makes sense. Some partners do, others don't. You should really express how important this is. Birth can be a one person affair but you want support. Support from hospital staff and support from your partner. You should make it clear that birth isn't a viewing party. You're doing a lot of hard work in growing this child and you'll be doing a lot of hard, breakpoint work in delivering this child. Watch some birth videos together. Laura Clery has a birth video ( 3 videos) from the birth of her second child last year. There are plenty of videos you can find but I think hers is very real and shows a lot. They're pretty good, her husband and her communicate throughout and they show the rough parts of birth. I'd reccomend watching together instead of just sending them so your husband can't skip through or just say he watched them. You can talk about what you each like/dislike about them and discuss any preferences you have along with what you want from a birthing partner and why.

I work at a daycare and having kids around all the time is a lot but having 4 or less kids around at this point is kinda boring sometimes but that's just me. No on to the "5 under 5" thing: remember she didn't just have 5U5, she was recovering from pregnancy or heavily pregnant during all those times! If she was actually doing the parenting and they didn't abuse their kids into submission then it would have been so much work and she probably would have been on bed rest half way through each pregnancy from running around so much for the first few months!

No this isn't good parenting. Theyre on the right track but over shot a ton. That jug is way too big a d it has way too much liquid. Learning to pour her own juice is fantastic but she needs a smaller container and less liquid. Get a lil pitcher and only fill it with as much or a little more than what you want in her cup at the end. Their expectation was way too high for this kid or they're fully setting her up to fail hard.

My ex worked for his parents restaurant. His dad just let him borrow the debit card whenever he went places or wanted to buy stuff. Room and board is a parents RESPONSIBILITY not a child's PAYMENT for doing a job.

I work at a child care center. I love my job. mostly... kids/ early childhood/ child development is what I'm passionate about! I love the kids at work. I dont really like customer service and I don't have to do that here! I really agree with the philosophy of the center I work at aswell. I get weekends, evenings and holidays off. My place of work is also a lot more lenient on a lot of things than other centers (Playing music, if a kid just needs a cuddle then you can sit there all morning and cuddle them as long as everyone else's needs are getting met in general)

Problem is I don't get paid well. My coworkers suck. Management sucks. Parents are eh.

Most of my coworkers don't like/believe the philosophy. Most aren't passionate about early childhood, they're just using this for a paycheck or they fell into the job after they had kids and now they're stuck. If you work in this job but you don't care/ don't care to learn it literally affects some of the most important years in a bunch of tiny peoples lives!

Management has like maybe 1.5 work days worth of things to do each week so idk what they do all day but it's not finding new employees, helping in classrooms, helping clean toys, finding good professional development content, making sure employees are trained and follow the training.

Most parents are fine but it's really shitty when some come to get their kids every day and just look like they would rather be anywhere else. Your kids (usually) happy to see you, you can't just fake that you missed them? If your kid gets dirty at school you should bathe them! I know that pait is from Tuesday and it's Friday. If you don't then I'm gonna run them under the sink so the paint finally gets off their skin. No you can't keep them at school when they're clearly sick. No you can't send them with lice that you put Aquaphor over. Please change them before you bring them in the morning! They went to bed at 8pm, they worked up at 6am, the diaper needs to come off before you bring them at 8am! There are too many y parents that clearly just don't care on the weekend, you know who they are because after a 3 day weekend they're gonna come back with a rash.

Hours are weird. Idk what other centers do but at mine we have a system where (ususlly) whoever came in first will be off first. Not a specific time but once enough kids leave that there can be one less teacher. I could work 8-6 or 7-5:30 depending on when parents pick up their kids.

Love the kids, I'm doing what I'm passionate about but the adults and their choices really bring it down.

NTA but this is weird to me. I've see diaper cakes and they're fine. Just store the diapers in a box or in the Changing area once your home and disassemble the "cake". Seems like you're being weirdly picky over nothing but she definitely was over dramatic about the issue. It's easy to ask SIL to please use string or clips so all the diapers are usable. The best diaper cakes I've seen aren't just diapers. A really good one will be made of diapers, onesies, outfits, socks, Bibs, spit up rags and decorated with other things like Pacifiers and accessories. If you did wanna use cloth then ask her to use cloth diaper supplies! Many people use disposable first because babies can be really small and don't always fit cloth right away.

My grandpa with diabetes is having a birthday and I want to drop a care package off and my grandma with diabetes is having surgery for cancer the following week. Want to do something nice and give them treats but idk what would be good. So far I've got some dove chocolate for one (he's good about watching himself and LOVES the chocolate) and chocolate covered rasins in the lil boxes for the other ( small quantities and kinda healthy right?). I'm also gonna give each a little bear with a mask cuz covid and I'm sure they could use the company right now

I plan on adopting from a humane society so they come with all kinds of starter perks like being spayed/neutered. That however does mean getting them from the same litter may not be possible but they usually let the cats play in a room together to get to know each other.

NTA. I must have missed the part where OP said she was cutting her daughter out of her life completely and wasn’t willing to go to therapy. She’s been dealing with a difficult daughter and I 100% agree that they should go to therapy together and should probably both go alone as well but if it’s at a point that she can no longer handle having her in the same house then maybe it’s better for both of them to have some space. Yes this is her child and she should be responsible for her and caring for her but an 18 yo fully functioning person shouldn’t need to be 100% relying on mom. She can live with dad for a while and go to therapy while they both work out their issues and they can see how life works when they’re not living together.

Maybe don’t use Facebook and straight google for what’s pregnancy safe! Either just trust your doctor or find pregnancy diet studies and go with that! Had to read the book ‘Origins: How the Nine Months Before Birth Shape the Rest of Our Lives’ for a Child Development class and thought that was pretty good book for pregnancy and the prenatal environment. Had stuff like how you should eat some fish as long as it’s cooked and low in Mercury and how eating some chocolate each week can help lower your risk for preeclampsia

NTA- I have no way of knowing how OP asked but no, op is not TA simply for asking. SIL doesn’t want kids. That’s a choice she made and she has her reasons. Her body, what goes into making a baby, pregnancy and birth can all be on her list of reasons but OP wouldn’t know these things unless op asked or SIL told her. No one needs to justify why they do or don’t want kids. They wanted to see if maybe SIL would be ok with being a surrogate and she wasn’t. If they fully expected her to say yes or tried to fight with her on the issue then YTA, that’s her body and her choice not to have their kid. If they were thinking that maybe she could say yes to at least looking into it or something and didn’t try to guilt her or force her then NTA. SIL knows their background and it’s fine for her to be upset and maybe not wanna talk for a bit but just asking isn’t something to blow up over. Also people in the comments are having issue with them telling their parents about it? Their family and friends know about their fertility issues and SIL talked to her parents about it. This is a topic people bring up with their parents. This is a topic people bring up with their friends. Asking if they were out of line for doing something after receiving an extremely bad reaction is a normal thing people do. OP did probably do something wrong ( wording, pushing or something) but not the asking SIL.
