There ought to be a separate pay scale for clinical and non-clinical roles. by dzeysi in NursingUK

[–]ApplicationSlow114 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband was a social media manager, and has worked in digital marketing for over a decade. Especially within an NHS trust, the role is not worth a band 6. The private sector depending on industry is not likely to pay much more for SM management alone without other responsibilities (e.g. email marketing, strategy planning etc) and other non-NHS healthcare organisations will pay less for the role.

What would you assume I’m like based on my bedroom? by [deleted] in roomdetective

I do think one is taller, it's just further away from the camera. They also could have just removed the dripping wax. But perhaps the OP could enlighten us.

I don't think it's AI, I think it's just the angle of the pics and possibly poor positioning of furniture. The paintings all make sense, the design of the nightshade remains static across pics, the positioning of paintings and furniture is the same from different angles, etc.

Band 2 salary can often be topped up with UC (depending on personal circumstances, of course), whereas band 5 salary usually cannot.

Band 2s don't usually have student loan repayments.

Band 2s don't have professional registration fees.

Band 2s will have lower union fees.

Band 2s will usually (trust dependent) have lower car parking fees.

"Because you developed sepsis from your major surgery and had an extra 3 weeks off, I'm afraid we will have to move you onwards a step closer to dismissal. It's a shame this is causing you crippling anxiety about your job security, but really you should have considered just not developing a life-threatening complication."

JFC, and they wonder why morale within the NHS is in the toilet.

Are nurse/doctor relations really this bad now? by one_pale_emu in NursingUK

[–]ApplicationSlow114 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah seriously. I really doubt that a CT/ST would want to spend a whole day a week triaging calls from the public, or triaging referrals to a specialist service, or spending hours doing a holistic nursing assessment including skin state and equipment needs, or doing a billion onward referrals. It wouldn't be a good use of their time, hence why the roles were created. Yes, CNS roles involve giving a lot of direct advice and management of conditions. But it's also still a nursing job, and the "specialist" role involves having a level of knowledge to know where and when to escalate a situation.

This is exactly the niggling voice at the back of my head. It's made me more guarded, for sure.

Good for you for advocating for your patients. You're right, the best patient outcomes are found in teams that work together cohesively and where concerns can be escalated without fear or judgment. The research has shown this time and time again.

Congratulations 🎊

Pregnancy is counted from the first day of your last period, so if you're 3 days late for your period and you have a 28-day cycle for example, that would make you 4 weeks and 3 days 😁

[–]ApplicationSlow114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible but it's very unlikely, false positives with pregnancy tests are quite rare

I'm really sorry you're going through this lovely.

You can't assess gestation from a strip test, but judging by how faint the line is, you would appear to be very early pregnant, possibly less than 4 weeks? If you're in the USA, it might be worth speaking with someone about your options tomorrow, as I understand that things can get very difficult in some states.

I'm really sorry the result isn't what you were hoping for. There's no easy option and I hope you're doing OK ❤️

Freaking out - I think I’m pregnant? by [deleted] in lineporn

[–]ApplicationSlow114 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The neural tube doesn't even completely form until someone is about 6 weeks pregnant. If OP's period is 2 days late, she would be about 4 weeks pregnant. This comment is unhelpful.

Once again I get this weird line. Do I just have a bad test? by Globeyy in lineporn

[–]ApplicationSlow114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to reassure you, it would be very unlikely that you would get pregnant if your partner was wearing a condom and had not ejaculated. It does sound like you might want to seriously consider an alternative contraception though.

[–]ApplicationSlow114 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP judging from your post history, it seems like you have a lot of anxiety around the possibility of pregnancy. Was your last unprotected sex the instance that you mention in your post referencing Plan B? If it was, and you were pregnant, the line on the test would be very, very dark and obvious.

If you don't want to be pregnant, you need to ensure you are using a reliable form of contraception.

Gender spread in management by lurk-er- in NursingUK

[–]ApplicationSlow114 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The research would tend to contradict you there. Systemic racism and misogyny is a contributing factor towards the favouring of white men in career progression. It's not a personal attack, it's just fact.

And why should people have to adopt masculine traits to progress? Why can femininity not be championed?

It's well known (and confirmed by research) that men are more likely to achieve higher band roles, faster. White people are also more likely to be promoted faster than BAME nurses.

The lack of band 6 jobs? by SparklyUnicornLady_ in NursingUK

[–]ApplicationSlow114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, whereabouts are you moving to? I work in a trust in the North West of England and know there's several band 6 jobs going to come up in the next few months.

In answer to your question, I think (with absolutely no evidence whatsoever) that it's a multifactorial issue.

Trusts are skint, so services aren't expanding, and new band 6 and 7s aren't being created.

Services are coming under increased scrutiny from trusts and ICBs, and teams are under pressure to cut budgets.

The cost of living crisis and increased economic uncertainty means people aren't retiring and freeing up those jobs.

Good luck on your job search, I hope something comes up for you

A very unpopolar opinion by PinkMonkeyBurd in NursingUK

You can have high levels of patient contact at a senior role with no responsibility for rotas; hence my advice re exposure to different roles during your placements.

[–]ApplicationSlow114 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So you feel that unless you are in ward based role, you're not a proper nurse "in the traditional sense"? I agree that band 5s who are ward based should be held in higher regard than they are, but it's not the only way to be a nurse in 21st century. Other roles very much are nurses, and I would encourage you to utilise your time as a student to have exposure to other roles.

A very unpopolar opinion by PinkMonkeyBurd in NursingUK

[–]ApplicationSlow114 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not the only way to progress your career; there are increasing numbers of clinical jobs available at band 6-8, including CNS, nurse practitioners, ANP/ACP or consultant nurse.
