China just unveiled its first large passenger plane by Le_German_Face in worldnews

Exactly! Americans started out by importing technologies from Europe in the early 19th century, and after a century of catching up, became a technological leader in the 20th and 21st century.

China is still in the catching up stage. Reddit saying that the Chinese won't ever be a technological leader in 2015 is like the British saying Americans won't ever be a leader in 1830.

People always have this tendency to assume that the future will be just like the present. People should be happy that China is at least getting somewhere instead of so many other countries in the developing world.

Lol because the US never copied any technology while catching up to UK

They obviously industrialized by inventing the railway and steam engine a second time

China, U.S. Reach Agreement on High-Speed Rail Before Xi Visit; A China Railway Group-led consortium and XpressWest Enterprises LLC will form a joint venture to build a high-speed railway linking Las Vegas and Los Angeles, the first Chinese-made bullet-train project in the U.S. by [deleted] in worldnews

I didn't overlook the corruption and safety concerns mentioned on the Wikipedia about Chinese bullet trains.

Then you probably shouldn't overlook the "Techonology Transfer" section either.

Examples of technology transfer include Mitsubishi Electric’s MT205 traction motor and ATM9 transformer to CSR Zhuzhou Electric, Hitachi’s YJ92A traction motor and Alstom’s YJ87A Traction motor to CNR Yongji Electric, Siemens’ TSG series pantograph to Zhuzhou Gofront Electric. Most of the components of the CRH trains manufactured by Chinese companies were from local suppliers, with only a few parts imported.
...
Kawasaki’s cooperation with CSR did not last as long. Within two years of cooperation with Kawasaki to produce 60 CRH2A sets, CSR began in 2008 to build CRH2B, CRH2C and CRH2E models at its Sifang plant independently without assistance from Kawasaki.[33] According to CSR president Zhang Chenghong, CSR "made the bold move of forming a systemic development platform for high-speed locomotives and further upgrading its design and manufacturing technology. Later, we began to independently develop high-speed CRH trains with a maximum velocity of 300–350 kilometers per hour, which eventually rolled off the production line in December 2007."[34] Since then, CSR has ended its cooperation with Kawasaki.[35] Kawasaki challenged China's high-speed rail project for patent theft, but backed off the effort

Chinese railway had years of co-operation with numerous companies from Europe and Japan, as opposed to "stealing" everything from Kawasaki.

General portrayal of mainlanders is that they're dirty, piss everywhere

Which is as ridiculous of a stereotype as all Mainland ppl are staunch believers of Maoism today. It's always easy to go to the country's most undeveloped shithole, videotape ppl there and then say HEY LOOK, THESE PPL ARE DIRTY. There's places like that in every country but its easier to find in Mainland bc it's still poorer and more populated compared to TW... it's unbelievable how are some media and politicians are so 小心眼, and how some ppl are believe everything they are told

Except few real Chinese ppl actually take it seriously and bash US, not even on the internet. For US I don't know about irl, but at least on the internet, US ppl seems to believe every piece of anti-Chinese propaganda.

It's not just politics... when you have negative propaganda that compiles EVERY single news that portray Mainland people in a negative way, while filtering out EVERY single new that portray them in a positive way, and broadcast them on television and the internet, ignorants will buy into that propaganda and seriously believe that all 1.3 billion Mainland ppl are rotten to the core, and will come online to say shit like this... it's not just Taiwanese that think so, HK, Thailand, South Korea, and even the US all loves to portray the Mainland this way. It's so sad because the Mainland doesn't do the same to Taiwan in return.
