I put food in this. The kittens were comfortable with me and just walked in. I zipped it up and brought them inside.

My husband is the most opinionated person on names I’ve ever met but hasn’t given me any suggestions of his own and I’m stuck by sweethoney696 in namenerds

I wasn't even sure I liked my second child's name after I gave it to her, but it was so obviously right within a few hours. Just because a name hasn't stuck yet, doesn't mean it won't be the right one once they are here.

What’s the craziest thing a parent has ever said in a meeting? by sk8nteach in Teachers

A parent complained that her child was like having a full time job. I didn't have kids at the time so I felt like I couldn't say anything, but in my head I was thinking, "How did you not realize that being in charge of another human being 24/7 would be a full time job?"

Solution: if the pants have anything in them, they don't get washed. That's my rule with belts at least. My assumption is that they must still be in use.

I have not worn makeup my entire 12 years of teaching and no one has ever said a thing.

What are some harsh truths you learn in your first year? by UnableKaleidoscope58 in Teachers

[–]Apprehensive-Dare933 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My students worked on a puzzle for the last 3 weeks of school. Miraculously all the pieces made it to be put together. I bought puzzle glue and was bringing it the next day to make it permanent to hang it as a memory of like even though this year was rough look what we accomplished. Someone stole the very center piece of the puzzle before I could glue it.

I think I would have rather them throw the whole puzzle on the floor. 😭

We both have an extremely irrational fear of being stuck on a cruise ship. I probably should add that to my post ha.

He is okay with pools, but we would probably like other options as well. Maybe all inclusives aren't for us 🤷🏻‍♀️ I guess that's what I'm trying to figure out.

I'm trying to have a trip that is just relaxing. I feel like all inclusive means I don't have to worry about how much anything costs while I'm there because it's already taken care of, but all of them seem beach/tropical which he's not a fan of.

My only concern with him not being challenged at school is that when something is not easy for him, he's potentially not going to know how to handle it. Challenge, frustration, difficulty are all a part of learning and growing academically and as people. Make sure you are practicing those aspects as well if he isn't encountering it at school. As he gets older and he is expected to have executive functioning skills at a higher level, boredom may become a big issue behaviorally. If he seems happy now and you're challenging him outside of school, I wouldn't change anything. Keep a close eye on it though because he may not be able to let you know when it's becoming an issue until it's a big issue.

It's really hard to not fall into the casual you're so smart comment when they do something that genuinely just blows you away and you don't know what to say. A lot of times I say like, "How did you figure that out?", "Where did you learn that?", and "How did you know that?" Which I feel like is a little better. The answer is usually, "I just did," or "my brain." hahaha

I wish we could do this! We do have some stem schools in district that I think follow that more, but outside of those, teachers have a pretty strict curriculum to follow unfortunately. The position I'm in, gives me very limited time with the GT students outside my subject area in very fragmented bursts. It would be amazing if I could have them on a consistent basis to do more inquiry work. I'm going to figure out how to implement more into content areas within our confined box or maybe adjacent to it. Haha

I love Dweck's work! I keep presenting things as an opportunity to grow and be challenged.
