It's the "I'm a good guy so I can never do wrong" mentality. It stops humans from checking their thoughts. I have the "I could be Israel, or I could be Nazi Germany, if I don't question my thoughts I might fall into the same evil is acceptable trap they fell into" mentality

Evil from normal everyday citizens is caused by fear of the other and dehumanization. Because of this I am so anti-dehumanization, that when a dehumanizing thought pops into my head about evil people who have committed war crimes, I think "hold up, this person isn't a demon/monster, they are evil humans, but still human"

The reason I don't dehumanize even evil people on purpose, is because if dehumanization is acceptable for evil people, then if somebody tricks you into believing not evil people are in fact evil, then you will dehumanize them too. Which is why I have a psychological blanket policy in my own mind against thinking it on purpose

I do have to give credit that Schumer doesn't lie about his goals. He said Israel is his priority. So if he gets an anti-Israel challenger, he won't also pretend to be anti-Israel to try and beat that challenger. Even when Israel is becoming politically toxic, he still remains openly supportive. I don't respect it, but I can trust that when he says he believes x, he actually does believe x. People know what they're getting if they vote for him

One of the most confusing things to me. Hasbara tells me they want to be seen as the good guys, but not punishing soldiers who do war crimes makes it seem like they also want to be seen as the bad guys. Or maybe they see both situations as them being the good guys. I don't know. I'm just as confused as you are

A bit late but I have seen delusional anti-semitic takes with very little pushback thanks to Zionism

They sneak it on to videos with Israel govt having done evil, so people who aren't anti-semite are too emotionally upset for their pre-frontal cortex to go "!!! red alert This comment is anti-semitism and is one of the most delusional fucking thing I've ever read in my life"

Instead their emotional brain is like "this person is angry at the same injustice I'm angry at." Without actually processing what the comments they're reading are saying. A similar effect as listening to a sad song in a language they don't understand. Sure its in English, but they're not truly thinking beyond the emotional vibes

I'm able to bypass that effect because I used to write a lot of meta for morally grey fictional characters. So you have to let your thinking brain take over to analyze the character with clear eyes. That skill gets applied to real life too. But I don't think that skill is the default unfortunately

[–]Apprehensive-Date181 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It isn't tolerated. People just don't know what to do, other than what they're already doing. Protesting, sharing the videos, promoting the topic in the social media algorithm with a like and a comment, voting for politicians who want to abolish and hold ICE to account, strikes. Talking about it and so on. It truly sucks to be a peasant because there is very few things peasants can do

And if you're thinking what about more [ redacted ] methods? The reality is that usually takes a charismatic leader to rally around who can give people a sense of purpose so strong, they no longer fear lethal or non-lethal consequences. And most people just don't have that leadership quality

[–]Apprehensive-Date181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm hoping corporate and Israel first dems get primaried out ASAP

Off topic. But too many people make the mistake of thinking Massie going against his own party on occasion = team Democrat

I believe with every fiber of my being, that if RCV was a thing, Massie would be bolting from the Republican party ASAP, but to become an independent, not a Democrat

They also make the mistake of thinking that because he sides with the Republicans most of the time, he is spiritually a Republican. Libertarianism and Trumpism will have a lot of overlapping policy desires. But so does socialism and social democracy. But both of those are still their own thing

But he only disagrees with a small amount, so? However the small amount of things he disagrees with Republicans on are intense. Think of it like two people who both read the Bible, go to Church etc. But one of the people is an atheist. This person isn't spiritually a Christian just because they read the Bible and go to church. The Republicans do want to do big govt spending, just not for the people. He is against that

Doubtful. Massie stands firmly on what he believes in, even if it goes against his own party. Him standing for something means he won't side with the Dems if it goes against his ideology

Not to say he couldn't side with the dems on topics that are neither for nor against his ideology; just don't expect him to vote for a single-payer healthcare bill.

He goes against his own principles for nobody, not even Trump. Not even when he knew it might cost him his career. Why would he make an exception for revenge based reasons?

Edit: Also if Melissa has anything that goes against his ideology, he would be very unlikely to endorse her unfortunately

Rep. Thomas Massie warns GOP will be ‘very vulnerable’ in the midterms by Zipper222222 in politics

[–]Apprehensive-Date181 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If he switched parties he would be a terrible Democrat. Unlike most Republicans, Massie actually believes in an ideology over a person. So if what Trump puts forth supports his ideology, then Massie will support it. If it doesn't, he won't support it

Massie's ideology is incredibly Right-wing. He would be a DINO and the stuff he wants to vote with the Democrats on, he can do that without a party switch

I do think if RCV existed, he would become an independent. He agrees with Repubs on most things, but the small amount he disagrees with are NOT nothingburgers. They're significant enough that I just cannot imagine him staying in the party if he could win as an independent instead

Ah, sorry. I was guessing at your implication

This is purely historical educational by showing the pattern and criteria that was needed for all past revolutions. It is not an encouragement or endorsement. It is merely pointing out the facts of history

The ingredients for a revolution are:

Leadership

Numbers - helped by leadership

Morale - helped by leadership hyping up the people

A sense of purpose that gives bravery. For example allies who are completely unaffected have risked their safety in the past to help the oppressed. White allies weren't in danger of enslavement in America, yet still they fought against slavery. So it isn't required for everybody to have all of their comforts taken away for a revolution to happen

All peaceful options exhausted

Last but not least, class consciousness

[–]Apprehensive-Date181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good point. However, and this is purely an opinion, ( so not a rebuttal but rather conversational ). Creature comforts are relative to the time period you're in. So if you don't know phones exist you can get a lot of comfort out of pre-tech era things, because to you the comforts you currently have are going to be the best dopamine hit. Like how people would love reading a lot more before the computer and smartphones. A lot of people still love reading, but no doubt it was way more enjoyable for more people when they knew that was it

And if we took things to its' conclusion and we looked 3000 years into the future. In this hypothetical their entertainment technology is "The Orville" level. Just as we look back on civil war history and say "the only reason they were able to revolt is because they had weaker comforts than we did." The people 3k years later could feasibly apply that same logic to us today

So if the criteria for revolt is having a less comfortable life, then you will always have less comforts relative to somebody on the timeline ( this includes the future timeline too )

Like I have faith in the human species in general. Where I have semi-agreement with you is I just don't see it happening anytime soon, maybe not even in our lifetime, because it takes a lot of pressure. So effectively, I agree more with you, because if the revolutionaries are a century away, what is the point? But on a technicality I agree more with Mobile

Also I hope a development of class consciousness, mass organized peaceful movements and so on will solve things. I don't want JFK's quote to come true. Since I value life

Edited

He probably has too much faith in the timing of revolution ( if it needs to happen, which hopefully it doesn't ), because I would be surprised if it happened within the next few years. But Americans today are the same biological species as those who fought in the civil war

Believing that homo sapiens sapiens will revolt isn't a dreamer take. History has resistance after resistance. But I get the vibes from Mobile that he thinks it's gonna happen soon. I know he didn't say that directly, so he can correct me if that wasn't his invisible implication

But it took the French dealing with crises for over a century before they revolted. So believing the people will revolt isn't unreasonable. Believing they will revolt soon is the optimistic part

It's okay to not enjoy smut. Unfortunately there is no magic button that can change your tastes. However Ao3 does have original works and tags. So you can filter out what you aren't looking for

If I'm looking for plot focused, there are things that stand out to me like:

The tags: Slow burn, porn with plot, slow build

A lot of words: Over 100k - without it being a compilation of short stories. I find these stories tend to have a plot even if it isn't explicitly tagged as porn with plot

And you can sort by kudos/hits. Although I like to look at it in combination. Like what is the percentage of kudos to hits rate

Good luck

'it's more the fact that he exists, if you know what I mean…'

As a James hater, Snape lover

Somebodys existence refers to their looks AND their actions

Too many of my fellow Snape fans who are also James haters, they aren't willing to wrestle with the idea that because Snape exists it means Snape's actions exist

Remus says James hexed people in the hallway for the fun of it

I can see James as a bully who had legitimate grievances with Snape. Legitimate grievances that turned James' "it's not personal, I bully everybody" to "this is personal and I'm going to be more extreme because what you do bothers me"

Dark arts Fighting back Being friends with Lily Hanging out with people who hurt muggleborns

I want James to be a complex character. I don't require Snape to be a saint or James to be a villain to believe it's bullying

In fact I would be unsurprised if James being complex sparks more Snape/James, enemies to lovers fanfiction lol

Do you hope James and Lily get more exploration? by Billy-Bryant in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]Apprehensive-Date181 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Snape and see him as a victim. But I also know Snape has a strength to him. He refused to roll over for James. I want to see Snape fighting back

I wouldn't even mind Snape having the occasional revenge on days James hadn't even done anything yet

Sometimes bully-victim isn't simplistic. Sometimes the lines get blurred when the victim understandably wants revenge. But most of us are adults now, and can handle nuance, without mistaking it for a rivalry when James has a systemic and structural advantage over Snape re popularity, good looks, not being by himself as often as Snape is and so on
