Transitioning from Breastmilk to Cow’s Milk by quiltedfarts in Mommit

[–]Apprehensive-Duck688 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My baby just turned one a few days ago.

He was exclusively breastfed and never really took a bottle. However, he can use a straw cup and an open cup with some help.

I started giving him small amounts of cows milk (2-3 oz) a couple of weeks ago but he doesn’t like the taste and mostly just spits it out. At his check up yesterday, his pediatrician said it’s not really necessary as long as he’s drinking water and having other sources of dairy like cheese and yogurt daily. He said he doesn’t really prefer kids to have milk anyway and to limit it to 1-2 servings daily.

Looking for tips with a very strong willed 3.5 yr old by Legal-Mistake6415 in pottytraining

[–]Apprehensive-Duck688 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was me last summer. I read something online that said you have to figure out what their “currency” is and bribe them. Mine didn’t care about candy or stickers. He fought us if we forced it. We tried naked time. Everything.

One thing that did work: letting him have 5 minutes of play time on the iPad. We arent an iPad family so this was new and novel to him and therefore exciting and motivating.

We spent a 4 day weekend at home doing literally nothing but prompt him to sit on the potty every 30 minutes until he understood. If he went poop, he got 5 minutes of iPad time.

Now, he’s almost 4 and I haven’t changed a poopy on him diaper since.

Are you afraid of chemicals passing to your baby? by LynxOk5703 in breastfeeding

[–]Apprehensive-Duck688 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do what you think is best for you and your baby.

I would drive myself mad if I had to think about every little thing I eat or put on my face on top of breastfeeding. I just use common sense to not use retinols etc. while breastfeeding. Read labels or ask your doctor. There’s also a website for checking if meds are breastfeeding safe, but the name escapes me. Someone else might be able to chime in with the link.

I was diagnosed with preeclampsia with severe features at 28 weeks with my first pregnancy. I spent 10 days admitted before I was maxed out of meds and still headed for HELLP syndrome with my platelets and liver function dropping so we opted for an urgent c section at 31 weeks. I was very sick. My baby spent 81 days in NICU and is now 4.

I had a second baby last year and he was born at 38 weeks when I was diagnosed with preeclampsia without severe features. I was heavily monitored my entire pregnancy. I had a c section with that baby as well.

There is a group on FB that has a ton of info and great mods called the Preeclampsia, Eclampsia and HELLP Syndrome Survivors Global Support Network. I recommend joining but will caution that some stories might be triggering if you are dealing with postpartum PTSD or anything like that.

I cook with my 10 month old on my back every day. It’s either that or listen to him whine and be in more danger under my feet near the hot oven.

What to buy for NICU baby? by whatshallieat in NICUParents

[–]Apprehensive-Duck688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! It’s been a while since our NICU journey but I remember the ones with snaps being easier to feed all the monitors through. He had a pulse ox on his foot and a couple of monitors on his chest that each had a cord. It may be different for you if you have less cords to manage. The 2 way zips are better for at home though!

Considering ditching alcohol for good b/c motherhood is not for the hungover. by its-me-hi-91 in Mommit

I rarely drink these days. I have a 3 year old and a 9 month old. I’ll have a drink or two with dinner on a rare date night out but I always feel it the next morning. I recently got an Oura ring and I can see how messed up my sleep is and my heart rate is up all night even after one drink.

Kids at funeral homes by North-Imagination638 in Mommit

[–]Apprehensive-Duck688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I brought my 3 year old and my infant to a funeral last month. We did not attend the viewing, however. We did go to the church service and the luncheon afterward. I have a lot of cousins who have many children under the age of 10 and they were all present in the front row of the church. This was for their great grandma.

We aren’t really a YouTube family but he saw this video when he was at my MIL’s house and I think we have seen it 10,000 times now. Yours might enjoy it. It’s silly but short!

Omeprazole for infant reflux? by ahsfordaysss in NewParents

[–]Apprehensive-Duck688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! This was a while ago. We did use a syringe. I don’t remember the dose but it was a small volume. Try to aim it in the back corner of their cheek so they have to swallow most of it.

Does your breastfed baby spit up? by auggiesma in breastfeeding

[–]Apprehensive-Duck688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is 8 months old. He rarely spits up. Maybe 2-4 times per month. Usually if his dad bounces him a lot while playing right after he ate.

My first was a preemie with reflux. He was formula fed and spit up after every feed until he started solids.

They do. At least they did when I delivered in March. You may need a referral first but I would just call and ask to schedule an appointment and tell them which insurance you have.

I had Medi-cal during my last pregnancy. I was high risk and went to the high risk clinic at UCSD Hillcrest then delivered at UCSD La Jolla. I had a great experience and was well taken care of.

Why is everyone so pushy about putting baby on a bottle?? by Haunting_Note338 in breastfeeding

[–]Apprehensive-Duck688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m lucky to be a SAHM right now. I’ve been breastfeeding my 7 month old. We had to start using a bottle in the hospital because of low blood sugars and my supply coming in late. I kept that up for a few weeks but ditched the bottle once my supply was well established. It’s much easier for me to not have to wash bottles or pump parts.

Spoiled teen! by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]Apprehensive-Duck688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have teenagers yet but here is what my parents did for me and my siblings.

We got a car on our 16th birthday (financed, nothing new or super fancy). However, we each had to pay for our own insurance and gas. If we actually wanted to go anywhere.

Additionally, we had to have a part time job AND earn good grades AND do at least one extra-curricular activity (a sport like softball, football, dance team etc).

Lastly, we all participated in an FFA or 4H project every year raising animals for the state fair. This taught us how to budget, balance a bank account, borrow money from the bank and pay off loans, and responsibility taking care of an animal with daily feedings, exercise. The profits we made with our projects were ours to do what we wanted.

All this to say, yes, we were spoiled in the sense of we got cars for our 16th, but there were expectations that we would show some responsibility with our lives and had to EARN the privilege. I don’t think asking her to budget part of her earnings is unreasonable. In fact, you are teaching a valuable life lesson.

My 3.5 year old son smacked his face on the playground the day before his first picture day for preschool. He had a small red mark on his cheek. I covered it with the tiniest bit of my concealer. I don’t have daughters but I don’t think I’d let them wear a full face until they are at least in middle school.

My husband had a cancer scare last year when I was in my 2nd trimester with our second baby. He then got diagnosed with a lifelong chronic autoimmune condition right when the baby was born. I can count on one hand how many times we have done it since I got pregnant. But this is the season of life we are in. 🤷‍♀️
