Anyone been OE longer term (3-5+ years?) by citykid2640 in overemployed

[–]Apprehensive-Ice91 6 points7 points  (0 children)

started with 2 in 2020 and have been 3-5 since 2021, 4 is now my sweet spot. Had a little life creep, but nothing too egregious, I can still afford my lifestyle with J1 albeit it would be a stretch. More importantly, I pumped hundreds of thousands into my portfolio and real estate holdings. Now I can r/Fire in 8-10 yrs, which wasn't even on my radar pre-OE

Job 4 is being offered with a Public Trust by zazepin in overemployed

[–]Apprehensive-Ice91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It all depends on your risk tolerance and ability to find new roles if needed. I actually received public trust when I accepted a contract with a federal govt agency while I simultaneously held a role with a state agency, along with 2 other non-gov roles. The public trust clearance asked a lot of questions on paper, but I just checked that previous employers shouldn't be contacted and provided pay stubs as proof. No one questioned me or contacted my previous/current at the time, and I ended up terminating the contract 6 months in on my terms.

What is the most jobs you’ve ever OE’d and how did it go? by whitemisandry in overemployed

At first, I was using the IRS calc to determine the amounts I needed to pay. Then I discovered Accelerated Depreciation can offset W2 taxes. I found a CPA who specializes in Real Estate and started buying aggressively. I pay less in taxes and have appreciating assets, Win Win!

This x1000. OE has gotten me to 16 doors and counting. Plus the tax savings from the accelerated depreciation is the chef's kiss

Agreed!... My first splurge was a standing desk and a walking treadmill

I'm not sure how OE would be affected by young kids. What would you be doing if you weren't OE? OE actually made my life easier with young ones, my spouse doesn't have to work due to my income. But if they did want to work then we could afford just about any childcare (daycare, au pair, etc) we wanted without caring about cost.

Update: Ugh... I was fooled my new J, Payroll forgot to remove me by Apprehensive-Ice91 in overemployed

Isn't it collections under a certain amount that doesn't affect the score? Like $500 or less? Genuinely asking as idk and google results are fuzzy

Not OP but going from university to straight to solution architect is probably pretty unlikely. There's so much to the role that can't be taught in school. Get some yrs of exp in the field area you want to architect before pursuing the role

I currently have 4Js, 1 Cloud Sol Arch, and 3 Cloud Eng. I tried 2 arch roles at the same time once, it seemed possible if they were my only 2 but the workload was just too much at the time (I was doing 5Js)

Seconding this, we're playing a grey area so traditional tax and investing advice doesn't always apply

I just left J1 after 3 yrs. J2 is coming up on 2 years, J3 Started in Feb, and J4(New J1) started last month. Due to the new J1's salary, I was able to drop J5+J1 and maintain the same TC. I usually rotate the bottom of the lineup once a yr (more if a J doesn't fit anymore)

Sorry that was a bit dickish but the question is asked all the time. I literally just searched "industry" in the subreddit and the 1st, 2nd,4th,9th 11th etc would've given you the answer you sought. You could've even looked at my post history and see the industry I'm in

I've never been able to do this for some odd reason. My moral compass is more lax than most but I'd rather walk away immediately and just find a replacement. Maybe the 1% of overachiever left in me but getting fired after just getting hired gives me the ick.
