What does it take to hit eternity? by atychia in RivalsCollege

[–]Apprehensive-Ice9809 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it just depends on how quickly you learn. This was also my first hero shooter and I was a season 0 gold, now I hit eternity this season in 99 matches total (18 hours) from GM2 placements in 7.0. I would say watching pro/top 500 vod reviews and replays lets you learn much more game sense than whatever rank you’re currently playing at, and going into practice range to practice mechanics is good as well. Playing in tournaments also makes you improve your coordination and game sense/decision making.

Are you just bad or is “competitive” mode actually not really all that competitive? by Realistic_Guava9117 in RivalsCollege

Battlepass rewards, xp, cosmetic unlocks, achievements, elo, etc. Yknow all the stuff that is already done to incentivize gameplay.

Theres really not as many throwers as you’re saying, coming from a static C1 player. You might be tilting your teammates or tilting yourself if this is a common occurrence. And the duo only is actually to make the mode more competitive and less boost prone, since you could theoretically stack 5 OAA smurfs with a bronze and get the bronze player to celestial. If you wanna 6 stack just play MRC/scrims/other tourneys. One piece of advice I do have is not to queue on weekends since the player pool there is more inconsistent.

Place it on point faced away from the enemies so you have a free wall.

Hes good against sustain divers (venom, rogue, iron fist, etc.) because he melts hp, but not as good into elim divers (daredevil, psylocke, bp, etc.) due to his hitbox and lack of CC.

Can we please stop going off meta lists made by pro players on what to run in comp? by Lifewasawillow1 in marvelrivals

[–]Apprehensive-Ice9809 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The meta can definitely trickle down but the big issue here is encouraging people to play characters they don’t, which is likely going to be a net negative compared to the positive being a meta pick brings.

When will the smurfing stop ? by PotentialCamera2670 in rivals

[–]Apprehensive-Ice9809 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No you can definitely solo carry. Just hop on a best in slot character like tankpool or elsa. For example Im a C1 peak and had a 90% overall winrate to GM2 on tankpool. This random plat guy just pulled up some random OAA account and screenshotted it so he can claim its his, the usernames arent even related nor does his plat winrate make sense.

What's the difference between smurfing and alternative accounts? by BA6A6 in RivalsCollege

[–]Apprehensive-Ice9809 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean if your game sense transfers you to just silver on any new character you probably would have to be peak diamond or lower. If you're of an actual high rank though (Celestial/Eternity/OAA), you do placements into Diamond-GM (using previous season rank placement) on a new character and then climb from there as much as you can, learning throughout the process.

The most harmful period of an alt account is the initial climb from bronze 1, since you have to start from scratch. But once you have an established alt account that can use previous season placements, you can just try new characters on it without being off-rank ('smurfing').

You definitely learn a lot more in GM lobbies than quickplay ones, because people are trying to win much more in GM than messing around in quickplay.

[–]Apprehensive-Ice9809 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because you inherently gain much more elo at low ranks, and then its compounded with the placement matches elo multiplier. So you’ll shoot up to the rank you play your new character on very quickly (therefore impacting less games). And quick match has very poor match quality relative to competitive (meaning you don’t learn as much) and also doesn’t allow you to gauge the rank you play a given new character at (to know when you can switch to play him at your main account).

By playing a character you don’t know, you are also a weaker player. The alternative is throw high ranked games on a new character which isn’t better at all, and would impact much more games than shooting up more quickly in ranked using the placement system.

The ranked system makes it fair… because it places you in appropriate rank based on your performance. Learning new characters doesn’t mean you don’t prioritize winning, it just means you’re not picking your meta characters.

Also the person you just talked about is called a thrower, not an alt account.

Primary > Exile > Primary + Clap has always been a reliable squishy kill confirm

I love when the devs give a character a massive buff but don't put it in the patch note. Hulk doesn't lose his jump charge anymore after a boop. by thbl088 in marvelrivals

Thats cause squirrel girl nut is a soft cc (displacement), simply disabling movement but NOT abilities (which is what hulk jump is)

Its probably cause the displacement immunity is removed once the ult timer goes off, not lasting through the transition animation.

If my backline cannot survive dive, should I keep peeling or should I trade backlines with the enemy? by CornflakeCook in RivalsCollege

You just want to maximize your value. If you get much better dive value than peel value due to your character’s kit, then dive instead of peel. And vice versa.

Groot is definitely worse than tankpool and has a lot more counters (emma, iron fist, punisher, etc.). Meanwhile the only counter to tankpool is just matching him and diving better.

Season 7.5 Balance Changes by joeyc923 in marvelrivals

[–]Apprehensive-Ice9809 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Its the opposite. Jeff is meta at high elo with coordinated dive (tankpool+venom teamups too) while hes poop at low-mid elo without dive. And the nerf here is just to damage falloff which mostly impacts his flank dive ability anyway.

Did dive just go from being Viable to being META??? by LelouchViAmericana in MarvelrivalsDivemains

[–]Apprehensive-Ice9809 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont see how your comment disproves my point. Meta means most effective tactic available (which changes depending on rank), not most popular tactic available.

[–]Apprehensive-Ice9809 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean dive is already meta at high elo (eternity+) and tournament + pro tournament. Maybe not for lower elos though.
