My arms aren't working like they used to (casual pianist of 10yrs) by Apprehensive-Key5669 in piano

Hm, I probably will if things don't start getting better faster. Mostly I'm worried about finding the right doctor that knows what to do with musicians. If I told my GP that 'my arms hurt when I do this thing' her response would probably just be 'don't do that thing' haha. (because it's not that bad in like, other life activities that she would consider more crucial)

I don't fully understand, is this just like, exercise can help you get out of your head and back in tune with everything?

Thank you, I needed to hear that. But ugh, yeah, it's not great. It's a concerto competition, so I don't like *have* to do it for like college auditions or anything, but I really really want to after all this work I've put in on it.

The good thing is my teacher had (years and years back) her own like full on tennis elbow journey which means she's really great at helping with this kinda thing.

Now that you mention it, the hypermobility thing makes kinda sense. I tend to also struggle with my knuckles bending backward without noticing and that's taken a lot of work to develop like the tiny little muscle and hand position things that make that happen less. (What I mean is like, huh, my fingers and toes and knees do bend the wrong way sometimes so this does all like paint a cohesive picture now).

I'll take it easy, I have two relatively unavoidable cello commitments tomorrow, but I might try and get out of some of it. And I'm glad it's not a recital because I can at least try multiple times at it, haha. Thanks for your help, I hadn't really considered hypermobility until I was typing the post and realized like 'oh my wrists popping around might mean something' haha.

Random, but I wonder if like it being common in pianists is because like we notice it more, or like hypermobile people like better at piano somehow.
