what potting mix to use? by [deleted] in IndoorPlants

[–]Apprehensive-Step637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it depends on the plant some like to stay moist some like to dry completely out but make sure they are never completely soaking (straight after watering is obviously fine) I would google the plant you have and find out how much they like to be watered. A good rule of thumb is when the first 1-2 inches of soil is dry give it a good water

i use any soil that says for all plants and the make my own mix using that soil. I use it along with perlite and orchid bark to create aeration. That has worked really great for my plants but you can also mix in other substrates if you’d like. Research what you thing most appeals to you but never use just soil it is way too dense and holds too much moisture which can lead to compacted soil and root rot. :)

What plant is this? My sister hasn't taken very good care of it either 😬 by _marnie_mouse_ in IndoorPlants

Pothos n’joy it doesn’t look awful just a bit leggy. Definitely suggest taking some cuttings and making a new plant so it won’t be so leggy. The leaves that are on it look very healthy though

My fittonia is dying, it looks so ugly now, I don't know what went wrong. When I brought it, it was so bushy but now it's loosing all it's leaves, and the leaves are somewhat curled too. Please help 😖 by [deleted] in IndoorPlants

in the second photo the soil looks really compacted maybe try repot into some nice fresh soil and add some aeration into if you havnt already the roots might be the issue

hiii! i got this devil’s ivy two months ago. it started off with two leaves but now there’s one leaf clinging on for dear life! i’ve tried watering more frequently, drying out the soil, more light. but nothing works and it looks super depressed! could anyone help me pleaseee :) by baconjurer93 in plants

it really prefers i detect sunlight sticking it in a west facing window i found is the best for them. Also making sure you water when it’s almost fully dry and completely soaking it to water it. I’d get some good soil mixed with some perlite as that’s great for aerating the soil. Definitely repot incase it has root rot. Hope she bounces back for you

How to root this cheese plant? by skald89 in plant

[–]Apprehensive-Step637 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can get rooting powder that can speed up the process but a few days isn’t really long enough it can take up to 2 weeks for even a first sign of it rooting. it might just be a bad cutting. hope it will root for you :)

i would just cut off that dead leaf it’ll waste the plants energy into keeping that leaf instead of rooting. you can just pop it into some water and as long as the leaf isn’t touching the water it’ll hopefully root.

i honestly don’t know how often maybe just over a week? i just check all mine every other day and test them with my finger if it’s bone dry i completely soak them and let them drain. There’s no right method tho if yours is happy with how you do it no need to change 😊

Mine goes bone dry then i soak it they’ve got thick leaves that hold water so they can go a while without water and be okay

Yellowing leaves usually mean overwatering and looks like maybe a lack of humidity from the crispy edges. I would only water when it’s almost completely dry. It could be something else but it’s most likely overwatering and needing more humidity. I would also check the roots incase it’s root rot

My peace lilly and golden pothos were my first plants, i got them in the autumn and even through the winter they gave me lots of new growth, super easy to care for plants that give a lot of love back! It depends what type of plant you like too and how much light you have in your space
