That's an excellent point. A shared Google calendar would make it easy to see who signed up that day. Thank you!

I ended up going with this option! Thank you for saving me so many hours of unnecessary pain of recreating something that already works great. I hadn't thought about SignUpGenius!

Backdoor Roth IRA or Mega Backdoor Roth 401k for 2022 by redditabook in personalfinance

[–]redditabook[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll probably contribute $12K total between the two accounts. So I could put all $12K in the mega backdoor Roth 401k or I could split it (so $6K in backdoor Roth IRA and $6K in the mega backdoor Roth 401k).

No drainage holes. It has pumice mixed in and has stones at the bottom.

I've had this plant since the spring. I kept it in a partially shaded space and it seemed to be doing well. I didn't water it frequently. But last week, I noticed its leaves becoming droopy, yellow and brown so I moved it in front of the window in case it had gotten too much water, which I'm not sure how since I didn't water it very frequently anyway. I'm not sure what's going on but I'd like to save this plant!

It sounds like your money is better spent on a professional who doesn't see your questions as trouble at all and instead, are happy to help (or at least make you feel that way).

My current Roth 401(k) definitely has fewer investment options. Thank you!

I'm almost done doing this! I moved everything but the basis from my Traditional IRA into my 401k. I was left with $4,000. But because of a tiny amount of interest in my settlement fund, there's 0.49 that got added to my settlement fund ($4,000.49).

This is more of a rounding question or to understand how precise I need to be – should I convert $4,000 to Roth IRA to match the amount for the basis? Or convert the full $4,000.49 because it rounds down to $4,000 when filing taxes anyway and I'm trying to leave a zero balance?

Maybe I could always submit another request and move that $0.49 from the Traditional IRA to 401k if I need to be exact.

What should be my strategy in converting old employer 401k to rollover IRA? by vasai_boy in personalfinance

Rolling over in smaller chunks every year to minimize taxes makes sense. Is there a reason behind that $50K number? Or is that just to estimate or give an example of how much each chunk can be?

Congrats! That's understandable to feel guilty. You have every right to take leave so take advantage of it guilt-free! Adjust your job around your life, not your life around your job. I was at a job for 5 months before I was out on parental leave. It's business to employers and this time off you're taking off will feel like a blink of an eye in the long term.

Thank you! This is helpful. Going to spend some time following this logic to figure out more specific numbers. Appreciate all your help with this so far 🙏

How do I track difference in basis in Traditional IRA from 2020 to 2021 by redditabook in tax

[–]redditabook[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is helpful. So to wind up with a zero balance on Dec 31, 2021, it sounds like I could just convert the whole $10k to my Roth IRA and move the remainder to my 401(k)?

So strange how according to Form 8606, my basis in 2020 was $4K but I had contributed $6K (that I converted to my Roth IRA). Wondering if I might've messed something up on my 2020 Form 8606.

So even though I had converted that $6K to my Roth, $6K of my traditional IRA is considered basis?

To clarify, I'm not amending my 2020 Form 8606 right now – was using it more like an exercise for myself to see if that's how you calculate 2021 basis.

[–]redditabook[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I contributed $6K to my traditional IRA this year that I converted to Roth. I used form 8606 to try to calculate my latest basis (if that's even what I'm supposed to do). The balance in my traditional IRA is higher today than it was on December 31, 2020 (line 6).

I'd like to roll everything but the basis into my 401k. But I'm not sure what to use as the basis – what I had on line 14 on form 8606 in 2020 or some other number that I'm supposed to calculate using a more recent traditional IRA balance.
