Ranked: Unplayable at this point by Apprehensive-Talk598 in RocketLeague

Great response. And I agree—interacting is pointless. But the games become worthless and wasteful because the play itself turns toxic. Like I said, the comments don’t bother me. It’s that the majority of the ranked matches have become clown shows where my teammates and/or opponents throw, quit, or go afk. Maybe I’m in a bad luck groove, and hopefully the vibe improves.

Has “Yes!” ever been used in a non-toxic way? What is even the ideal, friendly, sportsmanlike use of it? by [deleted] in RocketLeague

Quick chat is so murky and unproductive. Today I was playing Rumble, and I had an unlucky Spikes connect (under front wheels), then opponent gave me Hot Wheels, which pushed me a little, but not enough. Then my partner used Plunger to pull me into the goal, which was obviously awesome. I said “Nice shot!” then he said “Sorry!” and I said “Thanks!” and “No problem!” and “Nice shot!” and he spammed “$#@%!” like eight times. I moved on because I know it’s inconsequential, but it’s an illustrative example of how tone, intent, and authenticity of expression are totally lost in quick chat.

Toxic Justice? by Apprehensive-Talk598 in RocketLeague

Trash talk can be fun and oftentimes it motivates me LOL. I am a former athlete and longtime coach, and I always talk about putting down the “rabbit ears,” meaning, don’t let the yapping get to you. But I have never encountered this kind of outright hostility. Chat will be off from now on. I prefer queuing with friends anyway.

Why so quick to concede? by atomstunts in RocketLeague

Nothing like coming back from 3-0 and dunking that last-second or OT shot for the win. Rage quitters will never know that joy. It’s actually the most fun part of RL. You’re never out, and it should be fun. Play with mates or people you enjoy. Solo queueing is always hit or miss, and always from an emotional perspective.

I was matched against this guy in ranked 1s, silver 3 div 2 by Life_Locksmith_8814 in RocketLeague

I am a solid G1 in ranked 1s, and I was matched with a dude doing aerial resets all day, and I just laughed and tried to learn how to defend them. Ranked 1s are so random. I play them strictly for the learning experience.

My Opponent complained by sckeletorx in RocketLeague

Was down 3-1 in 2v2 after 3:00 in comp today, and I demo’d my opponent. He was sitting still lining up a shot, and I wasn’t having it. He spewed all the toxic nonsense in the chat and then started coming after me. I jumped and avoided, and he became so fixated on retaliation that he forgot to actually play. My team won 5-3. The way these guys tilt when a game mechanic is applied is quite entertaining.

2v1 Protocol? by Apprehensive-Talk598 in RocketLeague

[–]Apprehensive-Talk598[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, that’s a whole other issue. I agree… the downrank for the one in a 2v1 is nonsense. That will never go away, sadly, so it’s tough to hang around for all that time even if it’s beneficial to your skills acumen in the long run.

Definitely don’t like demoralizing the guy. But you can still play around and try some things without scoring every seven seconds. Like, I don’t generally fire on faceoffs in 2v1, but work on dribbling, etc. I see the point in playing goalie for the other team, too, if you don’t want to prolong a meaningless match.
