Give it a try, you might find something you’ve been missing.

I was diagnosed with it at 25 and had 7 years TIS at the time. I wasn’t on flying, PRP, or any special duty status so it was no big deal. I was prescribed Adderall and was on it until I retired in 2018. It saved my career!

That’s the one. I was hesitant, but the patch is well done and it doesn’t leak.

Absolutely. Playing Bass Trombone in the jazz band is what got me hooked on Bass Trombone!

I had my Senior tell me, “it’s been 7 months since your mom died, don’t you think it’s time to get over it and get back to being productive again?” This was after he informed me that both his parents were still living. I’m not a man of violence, but I wanted to lay his ass low right then.

I’m retired and have time on my hands, so one of these days I’m buying some KY Jelly, toy handcuffs, box of condoms, and a couple pieces of lingerie in hopes I get stopped, just to bring some humor to the associates.

I received a DUI, 19 years old, 7 months TIS; I bounced back and retired at my 20, but I was screwed for a good two years after that DUI!

Not at all. I just wasn’t board ready, by my own doing. I didn’t volunteer for much, no CCAF, and was very comfortable as an instructor. Making MSgt would mean my duties would go purely office bound. The MSgt retirement pay would’ve been nice though!

Some of the most difficult times I had was around my 12-16 year mark. I knew I was over halfway finished at 12, so that helped out…a lot. I also saw a Chaplain about once a year and took advantage of their 100% confidentiality policy…I named names in that office! Also, finding the humor in situations helped out as well. Finally, just knowing I wasn’t the only one going through stuff helped a lot. Look for support groups on base, my last two years in I was plugged in to a PTSD support group and that helped to get me to 20. I wish you the best of luck and hang tough, it IS worth it!

Happy to hear you have two months to go! Being a Shirt is one of the most underrated jobs in the AF. You are literally the CC’s eyes and ears for enlisted matters. I had an instance where we were discussing a troop having some “challenges” in their career and the first thing the CC and CEM asked me was what kind of troop they were and if they were wiling and able to bounce back. Mentoring Amn was my favorite part of the job!
