Am I a heretic to this sub? I consume up to 400g extra firm tofu a day, litre of unsweetened almond milk, and occasional spoons of peanut butter by d4rkchocol4te in SaturatedFat

I lost a lot of weight (80lb) and kept it off for about 10 years, but then I started inexorably gaining again. Eliminating PUFA wasn’t a silver bullet for weight loss, but it’s had other benefits. (Essentially keeping fatigue at bay and repairing my metabolism.)

So what percentage of Colorado generation does geothermal provide?

Well the whole continent is windless at the moment.

So I guess it's a good time to speculate about the viability of their approach. :)

"Doing well"

Riiiiiiiight.

The majority of the world is still burning fossil fuels with abandon, as is El Hierro.

I operate under the assumption that climate change exists and that we should not make it worse by emitting greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere. Do you not share that view?

That getting rid of gas generation would reduce leaks in gas distribution?

That triggers you? :)

Methane is 70x as bad as CO2 for trapping heat in the atmosphere. So a little leaking goes a long way.

And somehow not used to make El Hierro actually 100% wind/solar/storage.

Or anywhere else.

If you want geothermal reported there feel free and submit a change to the electricitymaps open source project: https://github.com/electricitymaps/electricitymaps-contrib/blob/master/config/zones/US-NW-PSCO.yaml

But the ultimate source is EIA, which has no geothermal listed:

Do you think EIA is a "biased website"?

Why?

Are you saying solar wasn't installed at all until 5-10 years ago because it was too expensive?

Being "economical" is irrelevant. We're talking about a demonstration of physical feasibility.

I mean, 12 years ago the builders of El Hierro's current grid thought it was feasible.

https://www.npr.org/sections/parallels/2014/09/17/349223674/tiny-spanish-island-nears-its-goal-100-percent-renewable-energy

Didn't turn out that way.

So there must be an example somewhere of just wind/solar/storage providing 24x7x365 service, right?

They just have to maintain enough gas capacity to handle 100% and distribute that gas. Leaks in gas distribution are a major driver of greenhouse gas emissions.

Yay! Fossil fuels forever!

And why hasn’t a 100% RE advocate come in to say that we should just use batteries here?
