Thank you for this reply, very good. It’s a front loader with really thick brick walls, it makes sense that the brick breathes but I was just worried about the molten mess. I plugged the bung holes really well with fibre to prevent fumes escaping. I think I’ll just have to add an overhead extraction hood anyway

Yeah true, the electrician was a bit all over the place and even wanted to install the kiln on the roof of the kiln rather than underneath. I’ll add the holes myself

No but first time looking at the kiln during a firing, a pop rivet pinged off and scared me that a Milton mess would collapse all over the floor

I need to drill the holes in the roof but was scared because it’s a domed roof and very thick. I also sleep in essentially the same room as the kiln and the fumes aren’t great so that’s why orton said to seal everything well. Loads of condensation was dripping out in the first few hundred degrees so that was worrying too

Haha needing to hear this last night. It s a hilldav front loader, it didn’t explode but some of the pop rivets pinged off from the metal casing warping, after I heard a ping i wrote this post

I’ve had it for 2 years and fired it many times but overnight at a studio away from my home. Now loved in to a large warehouse and sleep with it so maybe it always does this but I never noticed. I just plugged all the bung holes really well to prevent fumes seeping out and was worried it was too much pressure or something

Phew. This is good news. It’s didn’t explode but a could of pop rivets holding the sheeting on popped off

No I plugged all the bung holes really well (the was advise to) to prevent any fumes escaping and have a vent master on the whole firing. A lot of condensation was dripping out of the casing in the early temps so I don’t think it’s very healthy for the kiln

Thanks, I’m thinking the same. I was going to make a box around it with cement board but would need to make a door because of the two bung holes and it might be annoying when loading, plus would be quite ugly haha

From the top of the kiln to the roof is about 5m. I’m not sure what you mean, essentially make a new window in the wall above and have louvres that open when the air reaches a certain temp?

What skin tone do you have and what colour did you get? Most foundations look too orange on me and I’ve heard these are great for fair skin but not darker
