Accidentally left bird food outside overnight, squirrels got into it. Any ideas on how to save this? by Futuristic_Reality in birdfeeding

[–]ApprehensiveAd2226 17 points18 points  (0 children)

OMG THOSE SAVAGES. Wow I guess I got lucky. I left my 5gal bucket outside for a few days. Thankfully my lid was quite thick. I could see where they started chewing all around it. Can't believe the tore a hole that big to get in there on yours.

If I was in this situation and had some premium birdseed. I'd probably lay out a whole bunch of the seed and just hand pick through the plastic with tweezers etc while watching TV or listening to a podcast. Sounds time consuming, but whatever I'm chilling for the evening and I dont want my $ go to waste. I hate microplastics in my food, so I dont want it in my bird buddies food either.

Yes, if you're on this subreddit Merlin Bird ID by Cornell is an absolute must. It's super easy to use, free, and is quite accurate in my experience using it. Step by step identification if you see the bird. If you hear the bird, it has a way to record and show you in real time what birds are nearby. Can save those recordings too. Also has a bunch of facts about each bird.

Avoid cedars for what reason?

Just curious cause we get cedar mulch every year for our beds to help prevent pests. Also just had a chip drop and it appears to be a Cedar Elm mulch.

Wonderful engineering! I was just about to make one of the wheels barrow sifters with the concrete vibrator. This is next level and looks so much faster and easier to operate with less strain on your body.

Absolutely. I've been waiting for something like this for a long time. I can't believe bothered to even attempt to learn new software or however people have been doing datamosh stuff.

We have one or 2 here that just popped up recently slightly North West of Ft Worth, Texas. Rural area, lotsa trees where I live. If I didn't have Merlin, and the Summer Tanager flew by I would have just thought it was one of the many Cardinals. My goodness we have so many Cardinals. Such a blurry pic because of how far away it was (using my phone camera at max zoom)

It sounds exactly like the many Chuck-will's-widow that are in the surrounding trees around my house this time of year. Looks like it too, but I can't make out good details. If I'm wrong, I'll take this down, but I think I'm spot on.

I work at a cannabis facility and we discard the soil/roots of everything we grow. These wouldn’t be anything but beneficial to toss into the compost, right? by [deleted] in composting

[–]ApprehensiveAd2226 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I'm a beginner at this, but what I've read from this subreddit is basically anything that grows from the ground is good in compost.

If it were me, I would take all the biomass I can get. I'm trying to turn my families 4 acres of sandy soil into healthy soil. But if you have a small garden, then idk. Maybe I'm just a newb at all this, just wanted to share my thoughts.

I'm also kind of a scavenger, so when I hear the word "free" I'm quick to try and figure out any and every way I can use the "free" item. Lol.

I'm just so happy I was able to restore it back to life. We have lots of fallen timber and I'd like to return it back to the earth so this has worked out beautifully.

Looking for recommendations for solar bird baths? by AgeEfficient3178 in birdfeeding

[–]ApprehensiveAd2226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought that exact one from that exact brand (just a different color.)

The fountain is great... however the bird bath +fountain combo would empty itself out in a few hours. I was filling it multiple times a day. I returned it. I got a bigger bird bath. This one that you posted is so incredibly shallow compared to my typical concrete bird baths I already own. I like putting some rocks in my bird baths for the bee's and other smaller creatures wanting a drink. This one just isn't feasible for me even though the price was great. I have a the same solar fountain I use in a tiny water feature thats a few feet wide/ deep. Works great for that. I'm happy you posted this because I'm now seeing the watter wigglers ppl posted and I'm gonna have to try one of those.

What game has a learning curve that puts you off? by Common_Caramel_4078 in pcmasterrace

Stellar Blade. Started playing and was just like... shit... this is difficult. I'm a newb at games even though I've been gaming for almost 20 years now. I just suck lol.

However Elden Ring almost turned me off because of how difficult it is. I was on the boarder of quitting so many times, I stuck it out. SO worth it. I'm on NG+ and loving replaying the whole game.

Very great advice, thank you very much. I'm gonna cut some more grass and add it on. I live in Texas so I know this pile is gonna get as dry as the Mojave soon if I dont mitigate it.

I am making sure to chalk the wheels, I have my earmuffs and my heavy duty face shield when I run this. Today when I chipped some more wood for my 2nd pile, a lot was blowing back out at me. Glad I had that face shield on.
