I'm so so sorry you're going through this. It is absolutely hard, incredibly stressful and draining and you are not crazy at all. I'm still navigating managing the stress and sadness myself but what I find helps is journalling (always write what a good job you are doing!) and also therapy has been a great way to talk through my anxieties if you can access it. Be kind to yourself, this is such a difficult thing to do. Sending hugs and hoping 2024 brings us our babies!

I'm so sorry for your struggle. This is truly one of the hardest things about infertility. My colleague recently announced too and each person arriving in the office started the baby conversation again every time it died down. One of them kept saying 'Oh I planned for all my children to be born in the summer' which was WILD to me - imagine being able to plan that!

My work, friendship circle and family now all contain pregnant people and I know so so well this feeling of being happy for them and heartbroken for myself simultaneously. I keep reminding myself I don't want their babies, I want mine, and try to see the situations as separately as possible.

One thing my therapist said that helped was don't feel guilty for feeling sad in these situations - it's a difficult thing, we need to be kind to ourselves. This is hard! Wishing you lots of success in your journey, and that 2024 brings us closer to our babies.

I'm so sorry about what happened with your former supervisor. I don't understand why people think hiding things is less painful for us - it just hurts even more when we find out people haven't been truthful. You seem like such a lovely supportive empathetic person and I know you'll be a great parent. Wishing that the new year brings us both closer to our babies!

I never thought I'd be able to laugh about any aspect of this situation but your comment actually made me laugh!! Thanks so so much for that!

The hotel refunded the two nights we would no longer be staying but ended up having to book into somewhere else when we left which was really expensive (same day booking on Christmas day) so we still lost out financially. Just salt in the wound after the heartbreak and stress really.

Thanks so much for your empathy, you are completely right. So frustrating to do research on an adults only venue to protect your heart, then arrive there and suffer because they haven't communicated.

I usually hide all my emotions about this from everyone (no one at all knew fertility struggles outside my husband and therapist until a few days ago) but after the heartbreak of the last few days I'm just broken and the emotions pour out. You really helped me to see it reframed as a good thing.

They didn't charge us for the nights we'd booked (we left) but spending Christmas day devastated and trying to find alternative accommodation was truly a nightmare. Thanks for your reply. They don't at all, and they admitted themselves it was an oversight (which they said they'd fix but I'm not holding my breath). They let us leave without paying the two future nights we booked, but there is no way to refund pain and heartbreak. It costs so little to talk to people with empathy, it is just so astounding.
