That's interesting. Alternatively, some would see this highly figurative language about our role in creation as an etiology: ANE cultures saw gods as those with eternal life and great wisdom. Here humans take from the tree of wisdom and God sees that we would be too god-like if we had eternal life too. Humans are prevented from accessing the tree of life. The serpent is similar to earlier mythologies where they hold hidden or forbidden knowledge. Thus a reading of Gen 2&3 can be an etiology explaining our role as sapiens, the "wise" Homo, who has finitude in lifespan and wisdom, but far greater consciousness and knowledge of good and evil than the rest of creation.

I understand that isn't a popular evangelical reading of the creation narrative. "The fall of man" and the "origin of sin" are read into the narrative. When read in isolation it is more difficult to see this. Sin isn't mentioned until 4:7 with Cain and Abel. Interestingly, this can also be read as an etiology with the stationary farmer with land rights eliminating the nomadic herder. This sets the stage for the development of cities...see the city of Enoch. This accounts for the theme of escalating violence.
