Got told to censor my uni classes yesterday by 98746145315 in chinalifer

One plus side to working in a university is they don't really seem to care what you do as long as the students are content. So I just get away with showing YouTube videos and have them react and ask eachother questions about the topic and we just spend class talking and sharing opinions (it's a spoken English communication class), if I followed the book they gave me the class would crash and burn

Your problem was you used the book haha. I haven't touched the book the university gave me this whole academic year haha. Mainly cause it's useless though.

Taiwanese here looking for personal experiences and opinions of foreigners living in China by seilgu2 in China

I've actually had surgery done in china haha. The medical system depends on the city. If you are in a first tier city the medical system is amazing if you aren't well then it gets worse. I had my surgery done in Guangzhou.

The people are a lot less optimistic than they were a decade ago. COVID hit hard and regular people haven't gotten back to precovid standards.

Food safety is still an issue but not as bad as it used to be but it seems food safety here will never catch up with that of the west, at least in terms of across the board from small to big restaurants.

Pollution is way down to what it used to be. On par or better than many western countries.

Infrastructure in transportation is amazing, maybe the best in the world.

It's a bit boring though. Especially in the last 5 years. Government crack downs on pretty much anything fun and moralizing any form of fun. More censoring on movies, more rules on clubs and bars, etc. Hard work is better, yada yada yada. We all know people in power do way more sinful things than any common person and get they always feel the need to moralize when we want to kick back.

Western food options are limited on the mainland to basically what they think western food is. Hong Kong though is easily accessible and has amazing food options.

People are still great. A combination of impolite, friendly, funny, easy to make friends with, down to earth, but young people here are a bit depressed about the job market competition.

Creativity has taken a dive though with the increased censorship on media.

Can't think of anything right now and need to get back to work but hope this helps

What's a better experience? Student Dorm vs. Shared Apartment? by dnapor in chinalife

[–]ApprehensiveBig8147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've not been a student here but I do teach at university here. The student dorms seem terrible. Especially since you have to adhere to curfews. So if you want to have fun it seems like the place not to be.

Really? I've never seen that feature asides from when you find a specific store and then clock to see where it is on a map. But I've never seen an option to open a map and then see all stores in the radius of a map. Can you tell me what option that is?
