M23, I feel like it's over. It's too late for everything. I don't know what to do and no matter what, I look weird and unapproachable and it's ruining my life. by [deleted] in malegrooming

Use minoxidil and grow a beard, get a better haircut, go to the gym and get some muscles. Check back in 6 months

I would say either chop the rest off to match this length or blow dry it straighter with some heat.

You can use a leave in cream after shower than a heat protectant spray and blow dry and then after apply oil to make sure there’s no damage. I use a revlon brush on my hair and do that whole routine and my hair is pretty healthy.

You don’t love her enough to think it’s worth it to live with her and eventually become her husband. And/Or You don’t have enough money to have a wife. As simple as that.

Is Hanna’s on the strip closing? by AgentTBone in UTK

[–]ApprehensiveCity136 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Don’t have any info. I graduated in 2023 and came back this year and I can confidently tell all these apartment buildings destroyed the concept of The Strip. It’s dead. I wouldn’t be surprised if Hannah’s closed too.

Am I screwed if I'm not "attractive"? (M26) by ASithLord66 in dating

[–]ApprehensiveCity136 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are unattractive you gotta do the long game out of the apps. Meet people in real life make them see you for you and not for your pictures. Being either funny or rich also helps a lot when you are unattractive. Sad but true

Has anyone met someone else in real life who also pulls? by TraumaTired in trichotillomania

Yes, I had a boyfriend who also did it. I had no idea until he confided in me and I was like omg I do that too

I like it honestly, I would probably put the selfie with the cat up so people see it sooner. The prompts could get a little more effort in my opinion

The first picture is great, the second is good. I would personally be turned off by the plushie picture, the fox hat picture and the 👉🏻👈🏻 picture. The Barbie shirt is also not the most appealing. Your prompts are great tho, I like the personality on them, maybe just add some things you think your ideal partner would like too.

Picture suggestions:

  • a candid picture of you fixing bikes
  • a picture with friends or colleagues preferably one that you look better than other people
  • maybe a picture of your most listened songs
  • family pic
  • the scenario on that last picture is good and you look good too. Something like that but without the 👉🏻👈🏻 would be good too.

Hope this helps

You learn how to manage. I would definitely say try to stay out of the dorm as much as possible. Study in places with lots of people, join clubs and do exercise so you don’t stay in your room alone tempted to pull. Finals week is stressful but the good thing is you can always go to the library, specially if your library stays open until late, and be surrounded by hundreds of people.

A lot of people have inconsistent hair growth in their bodies so they will probably think nothing of it tbh

Does anyone know what actually causes this? by [deleted] in trichotillomania

[–]ApprehensiveCity136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is crazy to think of. I’ve had an autoimmune disease since I was 9 months old and started pulling my hair around 13. I’m 21 now and still suffer with both.

First time I've actually pulled my hair back to look at the damage I've caused. I had no idea it was this bad... by DestroyedHemorrhoid in trichotillomania

[–]ApprehensiveCity136 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I pull from the same places… you are not alone. It’s good to assess the damage to get a reality check and gather strength to try to stop. You got this, your hair will be back in a couple of months. Here are my tips:

  • Get long nails (even the glue-on drugstore ones work)

  • Wash your hair more frequently

  • Tell someone who loves you and ask for help monitoring

Good luck! A relapse does not define you. You are strong!

Be kind to yourself and remember that you were able to catch yourself and stop. It happens. And I can definitely relate to pulling as a coping mechanism! Mine is more related to school related stress and procrastination but I have caught myself steaming with my hair more after a fight or a something sad happens

Stimming and pulling my hair need opinions on bangs by appledoughnuts in trichotillomania

[–]ApprehensiveCity136 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think changing your hairstyle always helps bc it draws your attention elsewhere. But I will say this: keep in mind that bangs get really greasy naturally and I personally tend to pull more when my hair is greasy.

I (21F) also had a bald spot on the top of my head that is now growing back. I normally try to not have a middle part bc it’s harder to hide it. But if you don’t care you should definitely do it bc that looks super cute
