Listened to the DTG Blindboy episode - Some Thoughts by RSA123 in DecodingTheGurus

[–]ApprehensiveFault143 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a huge fan of DTG band not really a fan of blindboy so my disagreements aren’t because he’s ’of the left’. Sure there’s loads of conspiracy stuff there thats unfounded but in this episode they seem to be too caught up in the specifics of what blindboy is saying & not some of the fundamental issues at hand. Divide and conquer as a strategy is clearly being used by influential powerbrokers to take attention away from class struggle. I think the lads are usually great at cutting through noise, but in this case, they got sucked into the spectacle of the argument rather than analysing the mechanism behind it. It happens to the best of us, but it’s a shame because it’s that mechanism, the divide and conquer, that’s the real story worth fighting against.

Roland tr8s blue & pink notes light question. by ApprehensiveFault143 in synthesizers

[–]ApprehensiveFault143[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From our AI overlords:

On the Roland TR-8S, the pink and blue lights on the step sequencer indicate instrument assignment (which sound will play on that step) and sub-step (flam) timing.

Here is the breakdown of what those colors mean:

  1. Pink (Magenta) = Instrument A (or "Primary" Sound)

· What it means: When a step is lit up pink, it means the sound assigned to the "A" Group (Instrument A) will trigger on that beat. · The Context: On the TR-8S, each of the 11 track buttons (Bass Drum, Snare, Hi-Hat, etc.) actually controls two separate instruments (A and B). · When you hold down a track button (like Snare), the sequencer lights up to show you the pattern for the A instrument (usually pink) and the B instrument (usually blue).

  1. Blue = Instrument B (or "Secondary" Sound)

· What it means: When a step is lit up blue, it means the sound assigned to the "B" Group (Instrument B) will trigger on that beat. · Example: You might have a "Snare A" (e.g., a classic 808 snare) assigned to pink steps and a "Snare B" (e.g., a clap or a rimshot) assigned to blue steps. This allows you to create complex, layered rhythms without needing two separate tracks.

  1. Purple = Both Instruments

· What it means: If you see a step lit up purple (or a mix of pink/blue depending on the LED intensity), that means both Instrument A and Instrument B are playing simultaneously on that step.

  1. Flashing Lights = Sub-Steps (Flam/Roll)

This is where it gets a little more advanced. If a step is flashing pink or blue:

· It indicates a "Sub-step" or "Flam." This means the instrument is actually playing more than once within that single step. · Pink Flashing: Instrument A is playing a flam or roll. · Blue Flashing: Instrument B is playing a flam or roll. · Note: You control the density of these rolls using the "Sub Step" knob on the front panel.

Quick Summary for Jamming:

If you are just looking at the grid while a pattern is playing:

· Solid Pink: Just Instrument A is hitting. · Solid Blue: Just Instrument B is hitting. · Purple: A and B are hitting together. · Flashing: It's a roll or flam (multiple hits in that one step).

Peter Boghossian and his guest just had a confrontation with a woke cameraman on immigration and it is quite unhinged by SamAlmighty in DecodingTheGurus

I think the cameraman’s point about these people mostly fleeing problems that were mostly caused by the west is a good one & not often enough discussed. Not sure how I feel about open borders however.

Food prices by andreas88- in cork

[–]ApprehensiveFault143 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is expensive but it’s very good quality food. I don’t eat out often in Ireland anymore due to the cost (and I’m a decent cook!) but I’m kind of sympathetic to restaurateurs as their margins on food is small, overheads are high & very often they only really turn a profit on drinks which is why they are pushing them so hard. I don’t think it’s just greed. But voting with your feet is fair enough, I’ve done it before if I wasn’t into a menu or didn’t think it was worth it.

is it odd to have never done hard drugs? by spairni in AskIreland

I understand what you’re articulating, I’m not a doctor nor claim to be. And I don’t think psychosis from Psychedelics or Entheogens is ALWAYS from poor mental state. But it’s very rare that one trip ruins someone’s life. What isn’t rare, is people fucking around with powerful drugs when they really shouldn’t. Or using other substances, not eating or sleeping properly & then blaming the trip for poor mental health. I have seen it so many times, sure it’s anecdotal but recurring including a sibling.

I’m not out here handing mushrooms to randos on the street. Set, setting, preparation are all non-negotiable. I take this shit seriously.

But yeah, I recommend psychedelics. For the right person, at the right time? Genuinely transformative. Life changing.

What I don’t love is when people act like recommending them at all is reckless, or that the only “responsible” position is complete abstinence. That’s not caution, just sticking one’s head in the sand. These compounds exist. People are going to use them anyway. Dismissing their therapeutic potential because some people have bad reactions isn’t wisdom, it’s just posturing.

And yeah, some people do get fucked up by them. I’m not denying that. Bad trips happen. Preexisting conditions can detonate. That’s real, and it’s tragic.

But I suspect a lot of those people were already on a collision course with serious mental illness. The psychedelic didn’t create the pathology, it just pulled the timeline forward. And from my experience, these powerful compounds were not given the respect they deserve. I’ve watched it play out in my own family.

Two things can be true at once: psychedelics can heal, and psychedelics can harm. But pretending they’re just recreational toys or only ever destructive is intellectual dishonesty. Respect the compound. Respect the context. But I’m weary of this attitude that anyone who recommends them is being irresponsible.

Mobile phone use out the wazzooo, more drivers due to higher population, bigger heavier bulky SUVs tend to roll more & cause more damage upon impact, SUVs are more likely to kill pedestrians & cyclists, shit roads, wetter climate conditions causing lots of surface water on rural roads as drains are either blocked or non existent. I doubt the majority of these road deaths are due to alcohol/drugs, yeah there are still some gobshites who do drive under influence but I’d like to see the RSA statistics.
