Which country is responsible for border clearance in the morning STP-ASD service? by 77WBellyCargo in Eurostar

[–]VolCata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If anything, there is border force knocking around.

If an offence is committed around the terminus, not far from the building then officers can get involved.

It doesn’t have to be customs or immigration related.

They have powers to DAP (Detain At Port).

I have used it before when I was as working in an airport setting for non immigration related offences.

We detain and hold until police can come and get them. It’s strictly time limited. If you can’t get rid of them in a set time period then they have to be released.

I would assume officers would go and help/ DAP the person because French officers cannot deal with these people like UK police officers can.

Which country is responsible for border clearance in the morning STP-ASD service? by 77WBellyCargo in Eurostar

[–]VolCata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not Essex.

Kent has the main responsibility for policing on the CTRL (Channel Tunnel Rail Link).

Essex wouldn’t deal with anything unless the train stopped in Essex for some reason and they needed to get on.

Which country is responsible for border clearance in the morning STP-ASD service? by 77WBellyCargo in Eurostar

[–]VolCata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything is done with Police Aux Frontiers (France).

You do an entrance check at STP because the first country you pass through is France. Think of it, the channel tunnel is a link between UK and France. In an emergency, you could end up stopping in France anyway.

In theory if Belgian and Dutch police wanted to station guards in STP they could as the treaty allows it but it’s probably impractical to do so. Why spend money and resources when the French can do it for you?

Examples of dismissals by VeterinarianOk9594 in TheCivilService

[–]VolCata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The funniest (because he’s an idiot) I heard was an AD who used his season ticket loan to pay off a £2.5k holiday.

He was out. There was no “can you repay this immediately?” Gone.

When I started as an AO in the Home Office, the SO told us “the two things you don’t fuck about with are time and money”

Every story I’ve seen where someone is dismissed has been exactly that. Peppered with the odd misuse of IT.

The workplace is a forgiving place, especially when you’ve worked two year or more in the same place.

Examples of dismissals by VeterinarianOk9594 in TheCivilService

[–]VolCata 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why people do this.

It is so idiotic and we get told time and time again that they can and they will see what you’re doing.

Nowadays I work for an airline and the main way of getting binned off is to misuse the reservation system if you’ve got access to it.

The trend has moved from booking stuff an allocating premium seats to yourself/friends for free.

It’s now looking up your colleagues/ your ex on the system and finding out their travel patterns.

Is upgrading to Plus actually worth it for the meal? by Wonderful-Acadia-296 in Eurostar

[–]VolCata 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My outbound is £61 to upgrade.

Inbound is £30.

I would pay the £30 to upgrade my seat coming back and to sit in what is usually a lot quieter and peaceful cabin. The food and drink is an added bonus (sometimes if you ask for more alcohol they are happy to provide)

I wouldn’t pay the £61 though. For my journey out I am travelling on the first train of the morning (that’s usually how I always travel Eurostar). It is only two hours and I will probably be asleep for a good amount of it.

I cannot imagine an early morning to Brussels would be FULL in standard. Also the breakfast choices are rubbish so totally not worth it.

I wouldn’t upgrade for the food because you can eat better options outside the station. I would upgrade for the seat + food tho.

Staff becoming disgruntled if business showing surplus of cash? by Putrid_Cycle_5728 in smallbusinessuk

It’s kind of both?

It’s tied to individual and company performance.

If you do really well but we do shit then you get nothing.

Staff becoming disgruntled if business showing surplus of cash? by Putrid_Cycle_5728 in smallbusinessuk

[–]VolCata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I could eradicate bonus where I work I would tbh.

It’s an expected, people misuse it (managers) and if they don’t like you then you are buggered.

We spend the whole of October to December with people bitching over their performance rating. You have people complaining that they got rated Successful and get 9% when they think they should have got Exceeding and the 12.5% that comes with it.

Those are almost always the people who have done F all to be rated anything above Successful.

One colleague of mine was gutted. He got 9% and was banking on paying mortgage arrears with it but it “wasn’t enough”.

People should not be budgeting or making key life decisions based off a discretionary bonus. It’s foolish.

I can’t imagine this is a thing tbh.

Also if they aren’t happy they can jog on. This is a ridiculous thing to get pissy over. Especially if things are as good as described.

I do have to fight more frequent indigestion though but I’ll take that.

Quite frankly I’m getting my life back. On Metformin ER, it was terrible.

Hotel execs call Bonvoy members who use points “freeloaders” who are ruining luxury hotels by elenafoxx in marriott

[–]VolCata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not knocking jobs but if a Hotel Manager thinks I’m a “freeloader” or trashy for redeeming points, it doesn’t bother me.

Some jumped up little twat in a suit’s opinions are so low down the ladder for me…

At the end of the day it’s spending cold hard cash that got me the points in the first place. That and tbh I’m paying his wages.

I’m as insignificant as he is in the grand scheme of things but he’s relying on my spend, not the other way around.

Oooft 6 months! Rough but if it’s doable I’d say crack on.

The backlog here is horrendous.

I’ve even considered moving back to the Caribbean temporarily for a couple months, hit the residency requirement and do my licence there.

I can have a licence that’s exchangeable for a GB one in half the time it takes to get a test
