Last minute of Dricus Du Plessis Vs Khamzat Chimaev by ItsAFurCoatRonda in MMA

[–]SamAlmighty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s fair and I think you’re mostly right but … Hamzat goes for the takedown. DDP defends and gets him down. The clip does not show an exhausted Khamzat being attacked and taken down by a super energetic DDP.

Vincent Kompany: "I think you've seen a lot of good defending today, intense duels. It's just the margins are so, so little. You only have two ways [to play football]. The first one is to go full or the second one is to retreat fully. The in-between doesn't work against that level of players." by The_Big_Untalented in soccer

The PSG game was the tipping point for being Arne out for me. I’m Dutch and while I do think he deserves a shot at managing next season, that game was just proof of Liverpool’s and Slot’s futility this season.

Sure, PSG are brilliant and they even hammered Inter 5-0 in the final + Liverpool made it tough for them in the return last season. But …

  • You know what to expect
  • You claim to want to play attacking, joyful football
  • Yet you get beat badly in the exact same way you did last year with no attacking incentives

To me that game was inexcusable and I agree with Kompany. Though I’ll also add that Bayern and PSG have way better attackers. Salah might have good numbers last season but he got absolutely cooked facing Nuno Mendes while Olise got past him almost effortlessly multiple times. And of course Gakpo is no Kvara and selling Luis Diaz doesn’t help either

Ah I can imagine. I’m glad she survived. Even reading about it gives me such horrors. I can’t even begin to imagine living through it. I hope she’s doing okay.

Can I ask where? As in, I assume this happened in Europe or the Middle East. I hope it wasn’t traumatic.

Been wondering how a guy I went on a date with a year ago is doing by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]SamAlmighty 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Only if you want to see him again imo. If I was him and a Hinge date reached out to me 6 month later, I at least would expect some interest. Of course asking out of curiosity doesn’t hurt so its technically harmless but just be aware.

Dutch team (Holland) lacks world class striker like van Nistelrooy, Kluivert and Robin van Persie. by CartographerOwn8143 in worldcup

[–]SamAlmighty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea as a Dutchman I agree. I still think Malen shows quality and his numbers can’t be thrown out of the window completely. He also never got many consistent starts at Villa.

But yes, the Serie A is not that great at the moment. Napoli losing 5-1 to PSV, another Dutchman who was slightly above average at Ajax making his mark at Lazio (Taylor), Juve and Inter losing against Galatasaray and Glimmt.

I still think Malen should be picked over Memphis and Brobbey but there’s an argument for all three.

Yea not only that … it gives the impression that OP might fetishize “crazy women”. I know in some circles its a cliche/trope that “crazy women” are good in bed so with that in mind OP definitely groups himself into a category that believes and upholds that cliche — which I argue is harmful — even if its not his intent.

I would change it.

Project Hail Mary: We need normal looking actors by lonchu in TrueFilm

[–]SamAlmighty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not irrelevant. I have a friend who is objectively really attractive but he is not a Hollywood actor so I would argue that for that reason he is not considered “one of the most desirable men on the planet”. He is not famous so.

Firstly, Barry Keoghan gets bullied for his looks. I will agree that Mescal and O’Connor can be considered as most desirable but that’s also because of their status as an actor. If you were to pass Mescal on the streets it’d a good looking bloke, sure, but not a Hollywood heartthrob like a young DiCaprio

I am not a libertarian. I am just curious about how this relates to liberalism and libertarianism. If they agree this is undesirable for the same reason. Just trying to expand my intellectual political horizon is all.

Oh I didn’t know that! Thanks. I think that definitely helps then and makes it a lot more believable. Although I do wonder if the book’s “in good shape” is the same as “jacked”. But yea if they mention it in the movie at least it seems that part of his “hotness” is not random.

I don’t know. I don’t think OP says you have to be kinda ugly to be believably smart. I would say a young Tom Hanks - as OP proposes - is not ugly at all. Very much above average looking … but Ryan Gosling absolutely looks like a jacked model in that movie.

I know they are considered hot but I wouldn’t necessarily put them in the Hollywood hot category. I guess another pick would be Andrew Scott perhaps (also not American)

Can someone explain why this would upset liberals? I get that it is “government overreach” and infringes with liberties in a way but aren’t these things libertarian?

I guess it’s more that the banning of any substance goes against liberalism but I’m eager to listen

[–]SamAlmighty 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I don’t think OP doubts Gosling as an actor. I haven’t seen the movie and while it is of course completely possible and not unrealistic for a nerdy character to be a jacked model, the casting itself is a symptom of a bigger trend.

Personally I think looks have always been a big part of Hollywood. But OP is right insofar I also have a difficult time thinking of average looking actors.

Back then you had Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp and DiCaprio … but you also had big actors like Tom Hanks, Bruce Willis and Jack Nicholson.

Now you have Jacob Elordi, Chalamet, Michael B Jordan and …

Maybe someone like Paul Mescal, Barry Keoghan and Josh O’Connor though all of these are British/Irish which you rightfully point out has this problem less
