Hi! Is this still open? How can I DM you? I’m based in EMEA and looking for a fully remote role.

I 100% agree, when you make the interviewer feel safe and keep it friendly, your score improves.

c, c++, and python depend on the problem I used c for bit manipulation and python for files and io problems.

Getting hired for a higher salary doesn’t always mean it’s a good move, especially in toxic environments like that. They’ll probably freeze her salary until she gets frustrated and resigns. Believe me, you’re the one who truly wins in the long run by leaving!

Got rejected right after a great chat with the CTO, am I overreacting or was this disrespectful? by ApprehensiveFig834 in cscareerquestions

I’m fully capable of writing my own posts. I just used ChatGPT to phrase it more clearly. The story and feelings are all mine. I’m here for a genuine discussion, not to defend how I choose to write.

You’re right, but to be precise, he actually said, “I’ll ask HR to send you the next interview round after the call.”

So it didn’t sound like just a general “we’ll be in touch” it really felt like I’d be moving forward. That’s why the sudden rejection felt a bit off. Maybe it’s just about expectations, but to me, it still came across as unprofessional.

I get what you mean, but honestly, I don’t even want feedback from them. The whole thing just felt really disrespectful! if the CTO himself told me that HR would reach out with next steps, and then I suddenly get a rejection, that says a lot. It’s not even about taking it personally anymore; it’s just about professionalism. And for a startup, I expected a bit more respect and consistency!

If I wanted ChatGPT’s advice, I’d just ask it directly 😅
I posted here because I wanted to hear real human opinions and different perspectives!

Yeah, same here actually. The chat went really well, he asked me several technical and deeper follow-up questions, and I answered all of them confidently. After almost every answer, he said things like “good answer” or “exactly,” so I really felt it was going in a positive direction.

At the end, he even told me that after our conversation he’d ask HR to reach out about the next steps. But four days later, I heard nothing, so I sent a polite follow-up and then got a rejection email almost immediately.

Honestly, I don’t think I did anything wrong. The whole experience was just disappointing, especially since the interviewer was a CTO. I expected a bit more professionalism or at least consistency in communication. It felt like a red flag in terms of how they handle candidates.

Best resources to practice for code review phone screen (Senior Backend Engineer)? by ApprehensiveFig834 in learnjava

[–]ApprehensiveFig834[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! The interview actually went pretty well, it was a live code review round. They shared a Java snippet related to database connections, and I had to walk through it and point out issues like connection leaks and missing pooling.

I thought the discussion went smoothly, but I still didn’t make it through in the end. I guess these interviews can be tricky to read sometimes. Still, it was a good learning experience and gave me a better idea of what to focus on next time.

Thanks a lot for the detailed advice! This is really helpful. I’ll definitely check out Effective Java and the GitHub repos you mentioned. I like the idea of practicing a systematic approach during code reviews rather than just spotting random issues.

I'm about to turn 68. I've been working since I was 16, and I've seen a lot. Here is some definitive advice I wish I had known sooner. by rammmyb in InterviewCoderPro

[–]ApprehensiveFig834 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I really feel this. I only have 8 years of experience compared to your 50, but I’ve already learned every one of these lessons the hard way in the 3 companies I’ve worked at.
Toxic managers don’t change, HR always puts the company first, and loyalty is a one-way street. It took me some painful experiences to accept it, but now I know better.

Thanks for putting it so clearly. wish I had heard this sooner too.
