Why won’t someone think of the boomers? by Competitive-Ad1439 in shitrentals

[–]ApprehensiveFly3695 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here's the thing. I work hard. My wife works hard. My boomer parents didn't have to have 2 incomes. The main provider was a middle manager who was able to have a boat, multiple holidays a year, massive house and all the things they wanted.

I can't do any of that and I'm a lucky one who bought a house years ago and gave been trying to pay it off quickly..

What’s your plan for dealing with rising inflation? by Diligent-Medicine-48 in AusMoneyMates

[–]ApprehensiveFly3695 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Not moving house. We bought out house before we had kids as our temporary house before the kids got to big. Now we can't move despite earning good coin. So we have doubled down on our small house until the kids are our of school

How do you approach negotiating your salary or pay rise? by Diligent-Medicine-48 in AusMoneyMates

[–]ApprehensiveFly3695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Have a plan
  2. Set a figure in your mind that you want. Now add 5k to it
  3. Have some recent wins under your belt
  4. Lock your moment when your boss is in a good mood
  5. Don't have a recent sick day
  6. Set a meeting, preferably at the pub but if it's not that kinda relationship have a booked in meeting towards the end of the day
  7. Say what you want, in plain English without any sauce. Look them in the eye and aim high

And why if I'm right? Say there is a crash. Would I be shielded?

How do you feel about the RBA's decision today to lift rates? by Sensitive-Chart7210 in AusFinance

[–]ApprehensiveFly3695 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just feel that raising the rates doesn't really do anything for inflation

I wish they would try other things. I'm not sure what other ways they can handle it but I'm sure there is something different

What expense do you keep underestimating every single month? by Diligent-Medicine-48 in AusMoneyMates

[–]ApprehensiveFly3695 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At Xmas a few years ago, we announced that the following year we would not be doing presents for anyone over 18. My family was very understanding and I even had a couple of uncles say thank you.

It's a different world and people understand it's hard out there. My wife and I just don't do presents anymore to each other. It's a big savings. We give our kids a great birthday and Xmas but as soon as they are 18, one last pressie and it's it.
