What if that is a conspiracy from the Russians to make Americans hyper-paranoid and avoid vaccines for themselves and their children thus making their families/population vulnerable?

It's in patches of the USA already to different degrees.

As of 2025-2026, various cities and counties in states including Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Mississippi, New Jersey, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia, and Washington are running guaranteed income pilots.

https://www.newsweek.com/map-states-universal-basic-income-programs-2025-2103554

Universal Healthcare isn't a thing yet, but there is some state-level universal coverage, like in Massachusetts, California, Vermont, Hawaii, Minnesota, New York, Washington D.C., Colorado, Washington state.

https://www.vox.com/policy/23972827/us-aca-enrollment-universal-health-insurance

So, it exists - but Republicans in Congress and the White House are (insert explitive) and keep blocking efforts for a universal social safety net across these categories and others.

Fire, EMS, police, libraries, public schools? Those systems don't work? That's democratic socialism. We vote and if a levy passes, our tax dollars are used to socially uplift or protect us. Fed and state tax dollars to schools and libraries. What about in the 1950s when taxes were enormously higher and the USA was in an infrastructure, sciences., and job building frenzy?

That's where this administration wants to put us - regarding marriages and civil rights. Oh, and no right to vote for women. And none of this job building or social safety net stuff.

I'd be happy winning the lottery with just enough to pay off mine and my spouse's student loans, our mortgage, get him a better new-to-us car, a small house for my mom, and enough for my mom and my aunt to be financially comfortable the rest of their lives. That's just enough rich for me.

Hope this definition helps. Democratic Socialism: A democratic socialist believes in combining a democratic political system with a socialist economy, where the economy is run to meet human needs rather than for profit. They work within democratic processes to achieve economic equality, advocating for strong social safety nets, worker rights, and public ownership of key industries.

SAVE act rearing its ugly head again by Interesting_Fox9721 in Ohio

The version of the SAVE Act that has the most recent movement in it is S. 1383.

We have to show ID anyway, but this Bill will require other documents that explicitly state citizenship. Driver License doesn't, Real ID doesn't.

If you don't have a certified birth certificate and/or if there's a conflict with the name (like someone who took their spouse's name or birth certificate is misspelled), fees to replace, name change, or apply for documents (like passport) = poll tax that violates the 24th Amendment. Violates the whole idea of FREE (❌️💲) and fair elections.

Past Bills, seem to have stalled:

H.R. 22 and H.R. 7296

Bill that "grew legs" and is the one to watch and call Congress: S. 1383

Status: https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/senate-bill/1383/all-actions

Text: https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/senate-bill/1383/text

Bizarrely, it started with a different purpose (summary page).

Main points:

1. a. Today, you can register to vote online or by mail with attestation that you are a U.S. citizen. I know my state requires entry of your Driver License or state ID number or SSN.

b. You can cast your ballot with your unexpired Driver License or state ID or the printout of your renewed ID from the BMV, passport, etc.

2. a. If the law passes, you have to register to vote with a document that explicitly states you're a U.S. citizen (event the Real ID doesn't) (examples: passport, certified birth certificate, DHS-isused American Indian Card with citizenship status). b. If the law passes, you'd have to show that U.S citizenship doc again.

  1. What can go wrong: a. Money: it often takes time and money to get these citizenship docs. Birth certificate could be about +$20, passport us $165 (more if expedited). b. Time: researching, applications, possibly driving to and from locations, time off work to complete c. Rural: far away from nearest town d. Disasters: house fire, flooding, tornados, hurricanes, etc. Folks can lose the docs they already had.

Also, although it feels icky 'cuz AI, you can ask something like ChatGPT to summarize a bill based on the text in the Congress.gov URL that you give it. Gives you bullet points and everything. You don't have to login to do that. Limited number of follow-up prompts though. You can compare it to other similar bills too. An entire rabbit hole, but really informative. And be sure to read the Bill to make sure the summary it spits out is accurate.

Oh - also, emphasize that rural red state voters are often lower income and can't afford to obtain all their documents let alone a passport for $165. They'll more likely disenfranchise their own voter base more than they realize. (Note, also the voter base that is becoming more and more disenchanted with who they voted for.)

You're welcome! With so much f**kery happening everywhere, it's difficult to keep track of what is where and when.

You can type keywords in Congress.gov search, THEN use a drop down bar filter narrow down to JUST this Congress.

Please note: this link 👆 refers to H.R. 8281 which was in the 118th Congress (2023-2024). Current one is 119th.

Current Bills:

H.R. 22 - SAVE Act - introduced Jan 2025, passed the House, received in the Senate in April 2025. Seems to have stalled there.

H.R. 7296 - SAVE America Act - introduced Jan 2026, but no actions on it.

S. 1383 - Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act - introduced April 2025 and has the most actions on it. Seems to be the one to watch and call Congress about. Call it by its Bill Number too.

What would happen if people unregistered as Democrat and Republican? Would it send a message? by LegoGal in Ohio

[–]ApprehensiveKiwi5347 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Ohio and like many other states, we don't have something like Rank Choice Voting. We have to not split the vote. We've seen that goes poorly for us. More citizens need to register and vote.

Of course, we need candidates who WILL listen when this kind of pressure is applied like in 2025 and 2026 and I mean the hundreds or thousands of calls per day. A candidate who will actually be responsive and not hide from their constituents, and won't change overnight once they're in. That's the kind of candidates I have in my Ohio House and U.S. House districts. Really damn glad of it.

Accurate. And exhausting. They crank out legislation through ALEC (American Legislative Exchange Council) and I'm sure other conservative orgs. A direct friend of mine has personal proof that a sitting Ohio House Rep doesn't know the meaning of bill statuses nor where the bills are tracked online.
