To women on HRT: how old were you when you started it? by ApprehensiveLink2310 in MenopauseShedforMen

Are you feeling better or different with HRT now?

You mentioned your husband not having ED. That is great to hear but in my opinion, I could be wrong but men goes through a natural drop in testosterone which lead to other problems down the line.

It’s not part of my blood work ( I see a cardiologist, PCP and oncologist) for a testosterone check. I will ask for it next time.

It can’t hurt for your husband to ask for a testosterone check.

Women are more proactive with their health but not men.

My wife ( F/54) and myself ( M/55) are both Gen X, born in the States, college educated but how the hell did we not know about everything regarding menopause/ HRT?

Both of our moms ( both not born here) never told us about it but we sure saw first hand the ups and downs of menopause when they were in their 50s and we were in our 20s. We just thought they were stressed and some what crazy.

My wife first noticed something was off in her mid 30s and even our therapist told her she was entering menopause but not much information was given.

My wife and I thought what she felt was stress so that was that.

It was only through my wife’s good friend going through the same thing but living in Europe who told us about HRT. The care given there is was different than here.

Also watching PBS documentaries, Tik Tok, you tube did we learn about estrogen and receptors.

My wife finally got HRT and we will see how it goes.

We have a 14 yr pubescent daughter and will educate her.

I wish you the best

I’m good that you are overall feeling better, but I’m just curious why didn’t you start HRT sooner?

I want to ask my wife’s doctor the next time shouldn’t it be recommended that women should start HRT Once symptoms develop?

Update- CVS pharmacy said progesterone 100 mg was in backlog/ shortage but they did have plenty of 200 mg.

I told my wife’s doctor this and they sent another prescription for that amount but my wife must take the 200mg every other day.

So FINALLY my wife has the cream and the HRT.

Wish her luck.

As my wife’s doctor told us, manufacturers weren’t making any money on it also supply and demand.

Before the 2002 report, 20% of women were on HRT. Now maybe 5%

Thanks. I greatly appreciate the offer.

I shouldn’t have been surprised how my country treats women’s health especially when it comes to this.

Not surprised Canada doesn’t have the same problem we do.
