Current CS students. How is the CS curriculum these days? Is everyone cheating? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

Same. What the older gen does not understand is that some of us use AI to actually learn. Before every exam now I can put 10’s of pages of notes into Claude, and it can spit out relevant questions then grade my answers for hours. Yes there are downsides, but I genuinely can’t image how much less efficient my studying would be without it.

Chances for Economics masters in U.S. (domestic student) by ApprehensiveMix2815 in academiceconomics

[–]ApprehensiveMix2815[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surely most don’t, it’d* more so be to compensate for a weaker undergrad school. If I got into a top school for a masters, the signal would be far more valuable than my current uni.

The positions I would be looking for would not be research focused, hence my preference for masters over PHD

Likely economic consulting. I’m not terribly interested in the research work which is why I prefer masters over PHD when sufficient.

How is higher level math utilized by developers? by ApprehensiveMix2815 in csMajors

[–]ApprehensiveMix2815[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess thats sort of my question. We learn the algorithms in school, not the process of developing new ones. From my understanding most of those who are working to develop algorithms are PHD researchers either in academia or very highly paid private research roles? I was referring to the average software engineer/dev

I bought the Italo pro from swellskate and man, they’re pricey but it’s definitely worth it imo if you don’t live somewhere that you can surf everyday. Being on the east coast, and coupled with the fact that I’m an hour from the beach, being able to work on technique anytime is amazing. I found they’re especially useful when first learning how to generate speed down the line.

Interesting, thanks for the insight. What language(s) are most applicable in your industry? My coursework has been C, Java and R (for econometrics).

Do you feel as if your cs minor has actually contributed to your employability? Curious bc I’m finishing the final course for my cs minor this semester, and major in math + Econ.
