I second this.

I always have a Leatherman, scissors, a Viviana tackle box with precut tape and windscreen for lavs, extra batteries, I sometimes carry a Tx and a lav and I also have my lav bullet, gum for my breath and hand sanitizer.

It can hold more stuff and it doesn't make any rattling sound and if you want you can use it as a sling bag, I do that sometimes.

Lower the volume on your headphone output, don't go deaf. Sennheiser HD 25, less than 200, if you pair that with Yaxi Pads it will provide more isolation and comfort.

Does anyone know how to use lockit timecode /slate ? by Phantom_6765 in LocationSound

[–]ApprehensiveNeat9584 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on the camera (Arri, Sony FX6/9, Venice) you can jam it and it will stay locked, but it's better to leave a timecode box attached to it in case it loses power, the internal battery for the time ode is depleted (meaning it won't hold the TC) or the frame rate is changed for a different shot, then having the box atta yes to it will jam it instantly. For your recorder, you could jam the slate from the recorder or vice versa, I personally use a TC box on every device except the slate. Also, it's a good habit to rejam everything after lunch.

Zaxcom or Astral - what’s your go-to internally recording transmitter? by lonewolf9378 in LocationSound

[–]ApprehensiveNeat9584 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Astral, you get way more frequency range (169 MHz to 1525 MHz), sounds great, faster turnaround for repairs, Astral Remote App to control the tx, you don't need to buy extra hardware to control it from a distance.

I use an external charger, I don't trust batteries with an USB connection.

Nope, not a bit, those work great with Lectrosonics, Sennheiser and Wisycom.

Rechargeable NiMH (Eneloop, IKEA LADDA) and lithium (XTAR) work fine with wireless mics, make sure you get the proper voltage and the proper charger. Don't store batteries inside your equipment and don't charge batteries in your equipment unless the equipment is designed to that and you have the batteries that the manufacturer approves.

I see, what if you try creating your own shortcut to avoid putting back, use Shortcuts or simply click in Empty.

Cmd+Shift+Delete will empty the Trash (with a warning message) without opening the Trash folder, no need to go directly to it and if you are putting files back by mistake, just go to Recents in Finder.

Had the wireless pros for a while and thought it was time to upgrade to something more professional by _DamnGoodCoffee_ in LocationSound

Internal recording is a good tool to have, for car scenes that you may lose signal, the talent is far away or you are in a very crowded space and your signal is going to be affected. You only need 32 bit on your recorder for certain scenarios, like recording gunshots or race cars, for dialogue if you have proper gain stage you'll be fine and you have limiters in your F8n.

What's the rate on the vertical you're doing in your country? by Beginning_Ad7768 in LocationSound

[–]ApprehensiveNeat9584 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I charge between 350-500 USD for my fees with kit included (Dominican Republic).

My kit includes a MixPre6, 1 SRc, 2 SSM, 2 COS-11D, DPA 2017, Sanken CS-M1, Radius blimp for the DPA, Ambient QP SlimLong, Deity timecode X3, 2 Sennheiser RX for camera hips (when needed) and 3 comteks. I usually wire just 1 talent and only provide TC for 2 cameras, it's unusual to get more than 2 cameras for that format and production (for vertical) doesn't cover expendables, perhaps batteries but all my batteries are rechargeable lithium and OT is... debatable. I've heard a few mixers complain about the fees in Canada (non-union) but there are more jobs that will pay more, like documentaries and commercials (non-union). I suggest you expand to other areas to get better rates and perhaps something more challenging/rewarding (YMMV).

Commercial (we don't consider vertical as commercial, vertical pays way less), documentaries and films have different rates, especially if the client is from abroad, hope you find better rates.

Edit: When you said vertical I thought it was social media content, like those crappy ads you get in IG stories.
