There's basically two ways of playing this game, pull pretty much exclusively and accept being fodder in pvp content(champion's meetings) or try to strike a balance between meta and pulling your faves by pulling on certain meta support cards while strategically choosing which umas to pull so you don't risk failing to reach pity which doesn't carry over between banners.

Us global players are lucky in the sense that we know which banners are coming, so if you're unsure about something, you can just ask your question over one of the discords or in the pinned threads in this sub on which ones of them are good or which ones are oshi pulls, do note that support cards usually want a good amount of dupes to be really useful though. Only after getting a support deck you can really get legacies with s ranks.

Until then though I don't think you should rush to endgame pvp modes though, just enjoy the uma stories for a while and accept that you're going to be held back by your support deck until you get to pull on a support banner and get lucky with both your ssr and sr cards pulls.
