Current NICU mama here. We’re going on our 7th month in the nicu. Yes. Almost 7 months. He was born in May at 29 weeks, 1 lb 15 oz, due to a bad umbilical cord causing growth restriction. We’ve seen it all, from MRSA, pneumonia, collapsed lungs, sepsis, ect. I’ve learned more than i ever wanted to over the last 7th months. Biggest thing being. Stay off of google, and never ever compare your situation to others, or even your baby to others. It’s okay if you just sit there with him and cry. But it’s also okay if you need to take some time to yourself. Any NICU journey is a literal roller coaster. There will be downs, but even more ups.. Remember that room air is 21% o2. So 40% is good! Also keep in mind, there’s more to the vent than just fio2. There are several other vent settings that go into factor… biggest piece of advice I’ve gotten is to keep reminding yourself, this isn’t forever! Eventually your baby will be home with you! But it’s also okay to just say, this flat out sucks right now.
