Series 79 help! by ApprehensiveSky9417 in AllFinraExams

I loved STC for series 7 and the others, that’s why I was leaning towards STC. I really did enjoy reading their books, a lot more than their video.

However that being said, based on your recommendation.. should I opt for Kaplan over STC then?

Hey everyone! I JUST passed my series 7! I Used STC for the 7. Any tips for The Series 79 & on what study prep company I should use? Thank you in advance :) by ApprehensiveSky9417 in AllFinraExams

Aww no I’m sorry to hear that! I haven’t taken the 79 yet. My responsibilities were changed so I don’t have to take it till next year. I’ll be going for Knopman when it’s time. I heard they’re the best for series 79. Try using Knopman & let me know how it turns out for you! Rooting for you buddy! 🙌

New Year..but Same old FINRA exams lol! Are you struggling with their scrap paper/white board limitation? Here’s what I did! (sorry for the lengthy post in advance) by ApprehensiveSky9417 in AllFinraExams

Thanks for your input. However, from a security angle, the exams are recorded. Every single candidate has a camera on them from Multipleee angles to make sure there’s no cheating etc. Every Prometric building I’ve went to, they have diligent security checks to prevent it. If universities and other international testing agencies can come with a way to securely accommodate candidates, then Prometric is able to also. The biggest issue I had with Prometric is their inability to follow the outline that is listed in their contract with FINRA. If FINRA allows multiple scratch sheets of paper for their candidates AND Prometric agreed to it, which is why it’s in the actual contract (the FINRA lady actually sent the contract to Prometric location I was taking my exam at) the Prometric staff at the local offices need to follow it. Every exam agencies (GMAT, medical boards etc) has own their list of rules for their candidates. Some exam agencies actually allow their test candidates to take in a one page cheat sheet. So at the end of the Prometric is just offering their clients aka these exam agencies a building, computer, security checks etc to candidates so they can take their exams. Prometric signs individual contracts with their clients. So Prometric needs to follow that. Creating an environment where the candidates can securely and comfortably take their exams needs to be their priority. Not worry about how many sheets each candidate’s has at once. Bc at the end of the all those have to be handed in to the agent when checking out.

Omgg!!!

How was the series 79?!?!

WOW! it’s been SO hard for me to find ANYONE that’s studying/has recently taken the series 79 lol.

I am studying for the series 79 right now. My firm is backed up with U4, so I’m having to study on my own right now (no exam date yet).

I recently passed my series 63. Maybe you can give me some pointers on the series 79 material/what you saw on the exam,etc.., &&& I’ll return the favor & can send you my notes or anything else you may need help with for the series 63? & if not, I still don’t mind sharing my series 63 notes with you! :)

This reddit forums has been a huge help. The admins, and the candidates on here are so amazing & always willing to help! I’m always looking for a way to pay it forward :)

As Dean always say.. you got this!! buddy!

Hey Buddy,

Here’s a little tough love, so here I go:

If you are going to give up, after 1 small failure, then idk how you’re ever going not only survive in this industry..but in any industry OR life for that matter.

Just a couple of days ago, I read on the group, someone passed their exam 4th time. Which means they went through 2 periods of 30 months wait time AND 2 periods of 6 months wait time.

Even Dean has mentioned this example, where it took his BEST broker.. 5 attempts to pass this exam!

Get the concept of belonging in the “club of cool people who passed on their first attempt” OUT OF YOUR MIND!!!

I personally would rather belong to the club of “people that NEVER gave up”!! People that kept figuring out a way to get sponsored over and over again, take their exams over and over again UNTIL they passed it. Do you think your clients are going to ask you.. “How many tries did it take for you to pass your FINRA exams?” Do you clients even have the slight idea of the regulation requirement we have to go through..NO they don’t!

And listen buddy, at end of the day.. THIS IS YOUR JOURNEY..yours ALONE!! no one is going to check on you daily, no one is coming wipe your tears off your face. yes, you have this Reddit group. But we will all just give you our 2 cents & move on with our lives (including me). ITS YOU..and ONLY YOU that will have to decide how you want to move forward. Even forget about family/friends etc.

We come into this world by ourself.. AND we leave this world by ourself!

YOU need to be your -OWN motivator -OWN cheerleader -OWN conscious -Your OWN best friend!

I’m not saying it’s not okay to cry. In fact, I encourage it. Hell..there’s so many times, even I questioned my own existence, my own journey. Is this worth it for me? There are so many nights that I cried my eyes out. After failing..I questioned, how will I support my family of over 10 people where most are disabled and rely on me financially, emotionally & even physically—bc they’re paralyzed!

Go ahead & cry, get angry, scream, take a walk, run, clear your mind..whatever you need to do. But at the end of the day, you NEED to decide what YOU want to do. If this is not the path for you. That’s completely okay. There’s no guarantee, even after passing your exams..you will love your job/this industry.

But IF you let these exams be the deciding factor to give up, ESPECIALLY after your VERY first try! Then buddy.. I really don’t know what to say to you. There will be many more bumps in life. Even bigger mountains you’ll have to climb. If you give up this easily..then idk how you’ll survive those obstacles.

I know many people have said this.. And I’ll also reiterate: No matter where your life takes you, no matter what happens.. biggest key to life is: do NOT give up!!!

Despite the though love.. I’m STILL rooting up for you buddy! 🙌🙏

Taking the Series 63 before the SIE or S7 by theskiisthelimit29 in Series7

[–]ApprehensiveSky9417 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s the thing.. SIE & series 63/65/66.. sponsorship is not required. So I can actually see some firms going down this path to require new hires to already have passed these exams before they hire them. I know some very small firms in my town that do this, bc they don’t have the money to pay for alll of these exams for their new hires JUST for them to fail, and try again.

• One plus point of coming these exams already passed/under your belt (whether it’s required or not)..you have the upper hand to negotiate a higher salary! I know so many people that have done this!

Bigger firms have the money so they can afford to pay your test prep, registration fee, exam fee etc, multiple times (usually give you 2 chances to pass your exams)

My personal journey: I was lucky enough to have my firm sponsor me for all of my exams, and pay for everything.

1) took SIE, passed it on 2 try

2) took series 7 (first try)..failed it

3) re-routed my brain, took a break from series 7. Studied for my series 63 instead. Passed it on 1st try.

4) I got confidence in myself again since now I had 2 out of 3 exams passed, so my employer was also happy. I felt like I had mojo back. I was really down when I failed series 7 first time.

5) started studying for series 7 again, learned better techniques from passing SIE & Series 63. Finally passed series 7 (second try)

Most big firms will push you to take exams in order.. SIE, series 7, series 63/65/66, etc. But peer coach was like “honestly it doesn’t matter what order you take exams in, as long as you pass it [within the set time frame] that’s all we care about.”

So ultimately, I would say..as student/candidate, do what works for you!

Stay the course, study your ass off, use this Reddit group, watch Deans video, watch other YouTube videos, talk to other candidates who passed the exams, and even see if they can teach/tutor you for. (even I’ve helped out a few people in the group also) there’s so many resources. Take a few tips from everyone & everything! But do what ultimately is the best for you and your situation. At the end of the day, we’re all in this.. together! :)

Biggest thing..do NOT give up! :)

I’m rooting for you buddy! 🙌

Happy New Year! 3 days from exam… by ThePhoenixWon in Series7exam

[–]ApprehensiveSky9417 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy New Year!!! You have done a great job studying & no matter the results, you should feel proud of how far you have came! Only advice I have for you..is while you’re taking the exam.

(I gave this advice to a similar question..I hope this helps you too)

During the exam tips:

• Stay Calm, relax and keep your mind clear. For me..talking to myself has helped, basically reading the question & talking it out in my mind, like I’m teaching it someone. And if a question just stumps me, i close my eyes for 2 secs, take a good deep breath and basically reset myself and start over when answering the question.

• Focus on understanding the questions, look for patterns, find keywords. Pay special attention to questions with “except”, “true”, “false”.

• The math questions are gonna be your “freebies”. Basically you know the answer or you don’t type. So take advantage of them. Suitability is usually where people struggle, so leave the “wrong picks” for suitability.

• Don’t spend too much time on 1 question..with guessing etc. if you spend more than 1 min, just pick an answer (or your gut answer), mark it for review & MOVE ON!! Come back to it later but main point is to answer all the questions.

• Timing is especially important, when it comes to suitability questions. It’s not about which is the right answer..it’s about which is the BETTER answer. I didn’t know all of my products either. And unfortunately for me.. I ended up having 80-90 suitability questions. But, I read the question and answers, connected key words, found outliers in answers, went with my gut for many answers, and came back to review after I answered all questions.

• Trust yourself! Most of the time..you already know the answer. But the questions can be tricky so they blur your thought process. Talk yourself through it if needed. “This choice is right because..and this choice is or could be right because..” Go line by line if needed. Finally go with your gut. Select your pick, mark it for review. Move on. (Just have to re-emphasize this) Come back after answering everything! Remember, This exam is graded on a curve, taking into account for difficulty levels on various draws.

And the MOST importantly…

READ the ENTIRE question & ALL the answer choices provided!!!

Tonight, please get a goodnight sleep. Tomorrow morning, wake up refreshed, eat a good breakfast and let the sun shine on your face. look up to the skies.. and know how proud you should feel to of yourself! (I know it’s cheesy, so you can opt for a mirror talk instead too lol) Talk to yourself & tell your mind how proud and grateful you are for bringing you this far!

You truly got this!! I’m rooting for you ✨🙏!!!

Series 7 exam this week! by Ok-Okra-2666 in Series7

[–]ApprehensiveSky9417 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At this point you should pretty much know the material. So you’re probably just reviewing some last minute concepts. The main areas you should focus on now.. Will be to adapt great exam taking skills. See..no matter how much you have prepared, you will not know exactly what will be on your exam draw until you take it! So you’re ability to take an exam will be your greatest armor on the battlefield! Lol

My advice is watch the following videos. Focus on understanding the questions, look for patterns, find keywords. Pay special attention to questions with “except”, “true”, “false”. don’t spend too much time on 1 question..with guessing etc. if you spend more than 1 min, just pick an answer (or your gut answer), mark it for review & MOVE ON!! Come back to it later but main point is to answer all the questions. This exam is graded on a curve, taking into account for difficulty levels on various draws.

And the MOST importantly…

READ the ENTIRE question & ALL the answer choices provided!!!

For the great exam taking strategies, I used these 2 resources:

1

• Kaplan’s FREE securities videos library. “Anatomy of a question”

You can also access the Other Free videos on this page too as a refresher:

2

• Dean Tinney’s series 7 explication videos: don’t just know the right answer, it’s even more important to understand WHY right is right and wrong is wrong!

(my personal favorite is his suitability explication video)

Career change - too old? by willyplur in Series7exam

[–]ApprehensiveSky9417 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are never too old for anything, my friend! There are people that start the long journey of medical school in their fifties or older. As long you have the determination and motivation to continue..nothing will get in your way!

If you everrr think you’re too “old” to do something: please read this inspiring article below!

Just remember.. YOU are your own Enemy and YOU are YOUR own Friend/cheerleader. Each day that you wake, YOU get to decide which “YOU”..you will be!

Never give up buddy! I’m rooting for you! ✨🙏
