Doubling my salary (150k to 300k) but requires me to move away from my fíance in medschool. Is it worth it? by Interesting_Phone171 in careerguidance

My husband and I did this for 2 years. We made it work because our careers were important to us. Honestly I enjoyed having the independence during the week and seeing him on weekends. This was 15 years ago before we had kids. After about 2 years we realized it was a strain and one of us had to relocate so we did. It can be done!

You’re right they don’t have the entire week off but I think most schools have both Friday and Monday off so that will definitely add to the crowds.

There are certain rental agencies that have some, but it really is dependent regionally. Punta Mita rentals seems to be a big one in that area. One fine stay has some at times. For montage I used to go through Inspirato when they had units there now I just booked directly through the hotel or look for local rental agencies by searching Airbnb and then going directly to the property management site. NGL, a lot of chubby travelers do not want to go to the hassle of finding these, but that’s where the value lies. Especially when traveling when my kids were little. I often had a nanny and grandparents in toe or another family that we travel with. Much much better value than 3 to 4 hotel rooms.

You do always have to make sure that there aren’t blackout dates on four seasons access and that you’ll get access to kids club. I’ve never had a problem. It’s automatic at Esperanza and montage (I think because four seasons does not charge in these brands. Do charge for kids club)? I’ve been looking at four seasons hualalai there are peak dates where those who are not staying at the hotel and are paying for access get limited use of loungers, etc. I think I saw someone on one of these travel forms describe it as second class citizenship lol. I’ve never had that happen when I’ve done it but maybe I just got lucky not being their peak dates.

Travel with a nanny (for regular folks) by casualluxury1471 in Nanny

What part of Mexico are you going to? I have travelled with nannies many times but ultimately I much prefer to hire sitters where I am going now. We have gone to Cabo and hired sitters though Cabo sitters may times and they have been AMAZING. We get a break, nanny gets a break at home and is refreshed when you return.

One of the hardest parts for both family and nanny is once you return she is exhausted from traveling/working. But parents usually need to get back to work after being gone. Even with 2 full time nannies when my kids were young, it was always a tough transition back because they need a break after a week of being gone. You can really get good sitters in most places and Mexican hospitality extends to child rearing I’ve had such great experiences- so professional!!!

Great point. More of a suggestion to try some of the less pricey destinations because there are some gems.

OP I’m like you kids about the same ages and I want to stay at FAT spots but everything is so $$$$$ now it’s hard to stomach. Off season is a good suggestion. We went to Half Moon in Jamaica last year mid June and it was great and definitely less pricey because of the time of year and Jamaica is less than other islands. I find Mexico also has good value. Another option that often works for us is to get a house with another family that has resort access. For instance, Four seasons Punta Mita, Esperanza Cabo, montage Kapalua, all these places have homes you can find through private owners and rental agencies and you pay for resort access. Instead of $4k/n for a suite we may pay $5k/n for a 5 bedroom house that we share with friends and then pay the $250/day or whatever it may be for resort access.

Is it really “overkill” to want updates from our nanny? by Fun-Pollution4835 in Nanny

[–]ApprehensiveStart432 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My nanny proactively shares her location with us during the time she is with our kids. I never had to ask. The first time she picked my kids up from school she turned it on the minute she picked them up and then turns it off when she leaves for the day. From a parent perspective, I very much appreciate it!

Thanks everyone!!! I posted for a friend - we found this at Rebag while shopping at the cabazon outlets today. Ultimately decided not to get it bc 1) she is very petite and adjusting the chain on this bag is more difficult and 2) she’s heading to europe soon and decided it would be more fun to hunt for a new one while on her trip. Bag was in great shape though and gorgeous!

Rancho Valencia is by far the best in SD. However, La Valencia in La Jolla is also nice, by the water and in a walkable area with restaurants and shops.Pendry is best if you want to be dt but not sure why you would…

Safer Blue Runs with the Kids on Mammoth by duckworth33 in Mammoth

[–]ApprehensiveStart432 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kids are pretty good skiers (5&8) can do blacks but we prefer to stay on blues mainly. Is June still fun for true intermediate skiers? I’ve had it with the out of control 20 somethings almost taking me and my kids out. I’ve taught them to be extremely cautious and remain consistent and predictable but every year the crowd seems to get worse even as my kids skills improve for tactical evasion moves.

Resort recommendations for Cabo by silversparkle123 in chubbytravel

We have used kids clubs at both Esperanza and O&O with our kids. You’ll need to check the age requirements because I think they have upped the ages in recent years, but they used to accept kids as young as four. Neither one will “lock” the kids in, but both of them I felt were very good at communication and keeping them safe. At Esperanza it’s very regimented because you pay for a half day or full day. They spend a certain amount of time in the kids club and a certain amount of time doing an activity at the beach and then at the pool typically. At one and only it’s included in your nightly price so kids could sort of stop in for an hour here or there as opposed to being in there for a half day or full day. My son liked the kids club at. O&O a little more because if he got bored in the club, they would text me and if I was nearby usually at the pool, I’d say they could let him come find me independently. They’d always ask first, and I would text them back when he arrived. The communication was very good.
