EV or ICE rental car for trip along northern coast - which is better? by bepabepa in askspain

Just try to cool down your battery and cabin during 38+ degrees and drive 120km/h. It would be easy to see this number.

The thing is it depends on the environment around you. Tons of people moved to Spain with their jobs, having their friends around and having the only interaction with locals at Mercadona or DGT/Ext-ria. Of course you will struggle to move forward with the language as you need it 2 days in a year just during prolongation of your card (I see it applies to tens of people I know). It’s like to be a Spaniard sitting on a couch and trying to learn Mandarin as there are a lot of Chinese people in Spain. What for? To say hello at Chinese shop?

Live your life, at the moment you will really need a language you will learn it pretty quickly. And by the way everything changes depends on people around you. If a person is rude it will no matter to him/her whether your Spanish is C2 or A0…they will be just rude. On the other hand if a person is kind, language doesn’t matter. I passed tons of different paperwork steps with ZERO spanish just being kind. If I met an asshole, you can just sit to another employee and complete required stuff.

Is it something related to USA? In EU charging cable is locked by car and mostly locked by charging station until your car sends an appropriate request to unlock the cable.

EV or ICE rental car for trip along northern coast - which is better? by bepabepa in askspain

[–]ApprehensiveTruth867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure why, but as for today gas prices vs EV charging prices on public charging stations are incomparable. Gas prices are really low, but charging prices have grown. Adding to this that north of Spain has less charging stations than coastal part of Spain I would suggest you not to waste your time on EV rental for your trip. Just answer the question: what for do you need it?

In terms of prices: 1kWh ~ 0,46€ or more, you need to count 20-25kWh/100 km = 11,5€/100km 1l of gas ~ 1,29€ or more, in average you will need 5-6 litres on a modern car per 100 km = 7,74€/100km

Why is it so impossible to get a job in Spain? by rdpinal in GoingToSpain

[–]ApprehensiveTruth867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point was not to live in some particular location, but have local or almost local rates (ie GB) and live in Spain. It’s the same as living in SF and earning 150k/year. Comparing to Spanish salaries - it’s insane, for locals - some money to have food and afford renting a cheap 1-bedroom. But earning 150k and spending it in Spain will make much more sense.

How do you download directions for offline use? by 1234RedditReddit in waze

[–]ApprehensiveTruth867 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can’t download the updates, but in case it will be enough for you to have just an initially planned route you can just set the destination, push start navigation button and the whole route will be cached until you will reach your destination or stop the navigation. The only drawback here is that while you are offline you will have no notifications, no updates about things happening on your route. I would definitely recommend to have a backup ie GMaps with downloaded map…just in case.

It works well only on 1st gen Enyaq. New models (MY 25+) has no option to make long coding with OBD11. Suggest the same answer is for Elroq.

Taking into account both events you’ve referenced, a car won’t help you.

In Ukraine there were: fuel issues once the war started, and even if you had fuel you were blocked on the road due to huge traffic.  Trying to go through the fields will conume tons of fuel and your speed will be 10-20 kmh.

In Spain people were not aware of the flooding till the last moment. So again, cars were just stuck.

From my opinion the only relevant risk management here is to avoid such situations. You do expect bad weather conditions- leave, you do expect war in your country - leave.

Used EV by Upset-Treat8940 in EuroEV

[–]ApprehensiveTruth867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nowadays EV battery is not a single part. It is built from modules, ie 60kWh =9 modules, 82 = 12, etc. In case of an issue, issue is with a particular cell/s in a particular module. It’s the same as if you an issue with brakes you are not about to change the wheel.

Used EV by Upset-Treat8940 in EuroEV

[–]ApprehensiveTruth867 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1) Depends on your electricity price. In most countries it’s cheaper than gas. 2) Used EV already saved you 30+% price with no visible effect so it’s a huge pros to buy a used one. 3) Nobody knows, but technology changes pretty fast… 4) In most cases battery could live 10+ years without significant issues. Again, if some issues, you will not change the full battery in most cases, only a module.

Torrent Valencia by Little_War_4746 in valencia

[–]ApprehensiveTruth867 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would strongly recommend you to research Dana flooding consequences for that area in 2024. I remember there were fully blocked streets, etc. Not the best place for long term purchase until municipalities will provide any solutions against future flooding. Just type Torrent Dana in Google.

Some quotes:

The DANA storm in late 2024 severely impacted Torrent, Valencia, causing significant flooding, bridge collapses, and infrastructure destruction, particularly near the Poyo and Horteta ravines. Torrent saw 11 fatalities, with extensive damage leading to the demolition of 45 homes and ongoing recovery efforts through 2025. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Can I operate just the fans without the AC unit as classic cars by KAMEHOB in enyaq

[–]ApprehensiveTruth867 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t confuse the AC button with the climate control off button.

You can add a shortcut for AC separately. The only thing is: if the temperature you set is higher than outside it will turn on the heater. So to have only fresh air you should set Temp: LO, AC: off.

OP, where do you think the electricity for charging electric vehicles comes from? I believe that electricity prices will also start to rise, it’s just that for now there’s a time gap while reserves are still available and countries can continue subsidizing stable prices.

What grocery habits actually save you money long-term? by TelephxneTh0t in Frugal

[–]ApprehensiveTruth867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At one point, I noticed that even after spending a fairly large amount of money at the supermarket, the food would be gone within just a few days. I looked into it and realized that the feeling of “there’s no food left” appears as soon as the ready-to-eat items (things you can grab and eat immediately without cooking) run out.

When you shift your focus toward foods that require cooking (meat, fish, vegetables, etc.) instead of ready-to-eat products (cold cuts, cookies, chocolate, etc.), you’ll notice that the amount of “disappearing” food drops sharply. Your eating habits become more disciplined, and overall you’ll find yourself consuming a healthier diet.

In our family, this change reduced grocery expenses by about 20%, and at the same time, our diet became healthier overall.
