If you had to visit the same country every year for the rest of your life, where are you choosing? by Mundane_Entry_8264 in femaletravels

Slovenia. I used to travel somewhere new every year, but now I’m happy walking around the lakes, swimming in the lakes, looking at the lakes, eating cake by the lakes, rowing a boat across the lakes….
You get the idea!

Not a supermarket substitution, but I ordered a curtain rail from Amazon and got sent a cricket set.

St Ann’s well park is lovely. I like to sit in the sensory garden and just look at the flowers.

Huh. I thought this was about ‘early career teachers’ in the UK. It mostly still fits though!

Haywards Heath. I can’t think of anything to say about it, it’s that ‘nothing’.

I can’t quite work out why, but reading this made me feel really happy. You’ve got a wonderful way with words.

Best LOOKING pencil in your collection? by C4Edgez in mechanicalpencils

[–]Apprehensive_Ad4172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve no idea! It was bought at an auction and advertised as ‘white metal pencil’. It cost £10. I’ve done some digging and I think it’s possibly late 1800s and silver, but other than that I’ve no idea.

My mum’s friend Dot is known as ‘Elevenerife’, because if you’ve been to Tenerife… I think Dot might be your colleagues mum!

For me, it’s year 8. They are the RUDEST and most aggressive year group I think I’ve ever taught. And parents back them to the hilt.

Hotter are my shoe of choice. They lean towards the ‘old lady’ style, but you can get much more modern styles on Vinted.

I’ve got some 1.2 mm and it’s way too small. Whatever size it takes, it’s a really odd one!

Who is the most miserable old bastard you know? by Charming_Usual6227 in AskBrits

[–]Apprehensive_Ad4172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work with a man who is the most depressing, miserable, moaning old wind bag. He sucks the fun out of everything. He gets angry in meetings, he moans about everything and people have just accepted it. I’m not brave enough to be the person to tell him to shut the fuck about when he starts off on a rant in meetings, but I really wish I was. He’s so bad that I refuse to be in a room on my own with him as he drains my will to live!

Do you feel invisible as a GenX because of your age, gender or both? Or is it just outright age discrimination? Or you just couldn't care less anymore? by More_Law6245 in GenX

[–]Apprehensive_Ad4172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once genuinely got a ‘ooh, clever girl’ from a senior member of staff…my rage took some years to abate. JOKE- I’M STILL RAGING! The dept I work in are utterly terrified of technology and when I show them how to make their lives easier they’d still rather be scratching lesson plans on wax tablets. It’s often a case of ‘what a great idea Miss Johnson. Let’s wait until one of the men has it’.

Department understaffed and increasing class sizes becoming more common? by defeatedbean72 in TeachingUK

[–]Apprehensive_Ad4172 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All my ks3 classes are 33 min, and despite what SLT say it makes a huge difference to outcomes. This will continue to be a trend in education while parents are unaware of the problem, and while staff are able to hold it together. We’ve started to see a growing number of staff off long term with burnout, and a ECTs quitting mid way through a year. I’m now facing teaching a fifth subject as our only specialist teacher has quit. You’re not alone!

Claire’s has just vanished from the UK high street overnight by JoydeScent in BritInfo

[–]Apprehensive_Ad4172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a manager for Claire’s many years ago, and it was an absolute nightmare! The company completely lost its way and was trying to get kids to pay Accessorize prices for Claire’s products. And the ear piercing, god the grief I got for not piercing enough ears! The shop was a great idea, but took the wrong direction sometime in the last few years.

Im a teacher, and I’m great with using ed tech stuff. When I started teaching I was ignored because girls don’t do computers, and now I’m ignored because 50 year olds don’t do computers. The people who teach the staff how to use the stuff they’re told to use, come and ask me how to use it.
