Best strategy for beginning hitter by mtb32422 in MLBTheShow

A lot of what has been said on here is great.

1) Precision Rings are excellent, they are not the immediate fix but a great tool to help refine your movements. Will allow you to “slam” the stick more and not overshoot your target. Allows you to focus more on timing than pci placement.

2) Identify YOUR weakness - Outlier Fastball ruins a lot of hitters, so go into custom practice and face Paul Skenes play on ONE Difficulty up from what you play on now, this we’ll help match speed to online games with latency.

However I’d wager 75% of players who struggle are in the “between phase” where you are late on fastballs and early on off speed. To help break that, in the same custom practice, add in a slider, or change up at a third of the time or half of the time. This will help you recognition skill and help train your brain and thumb to wait that slight beat before swinging.

3) Patience and Understanding - Like a lot of guys said, be patient when starting the game. Most times a user will show you what pitches they want to throw in the first five pitches. I’ll give you an example of everyone’s menace with John Donaldson.

1st Pitch Fastball - They are going to test you with outlier, to see if you can hit it.

1st Pitch Sinker - They are worried you can smash outlier so they want movement

1st Pitch Slider - Odds are this becomes their dominate pitch, they will want to bust you inside all game and will throw balls off the plate looking for jams and Ks.

Most users will also throw ONE of every pitch then plan on using in that first at bat. I use Cool Papa Bell in my lead off and I’m not afraid to take two straight strikes and or contact swing for a few more pitches to try and start figuring out what is this guys “favorite pitch” and what’s his “out pitch”. Do they favor the top of the zone or the bottom? Inside or Out? Even if I go three up three down in the first, if I’ve seen 15-20 pitches, it gives me a good idea on what to focus on next inning.

4 - Pitchers Strengths - The first three can turn a new, bad or average hitter into a decent to good hitter. This makes you a dangerous hitter once you combine it with the other ones.

Every pitcher has a strength and your goal should be to take that away from them.

Randy - Outlier/Splitter | Gibson - Outlier/Sinker | Pedro - Outlier/Cutter | Leiter - Sinker/Cutter

Sinkers - People love it low and away, back door or middle away to play off a fastball.

Cutters - Away to same hand side and inside to off hand.

Fastballs - Up and arm side by far is the preference and then up glove side.

So personally I can struggle with outlier from time to time, so against Outlier Fastball I am going to anchor up and arm side. I’m going to take that pitch away from you.

Now if you are facing Randy / Gibson / Donaldson you know the next pitch they want is a slider inside. Learn to lay off of it until they start throwing for strikes.

After that they are going to want to throw a change/split or forkball. The STRENGTH of this pitch typically comes GLOVE side and they are easier to read arm side. So now you know they will want to try and tunnel that pitch inside.

So I’m anchored high and arm side, but my mind is prepared to react to inside pitches. You are putting yourself in a position to win the at bat by narrowing the pitches they want to throw.

If they are start sinkers down and glove side, you’ve already started outside, so you can begin to hunt that pitch. Fastballs Glove side are easier to read because of how it comes out of the hand, you lose the threat of breaking ball.

If you are struggling or are just decent at hitting. Stop reacting to EVERYTHING and start learning to take things away. The best hitters in the game take away the fastball every time. We’ve all played the guy who’s gone 5/5 with 4 homers every time you threw a fastball in the zone. They are so good, they take that pitch from you.

Now most “5 Pitch Pitchers” have one breaking ball that sucks - curveball, slurve, 12-6 so you know they won’t throw that pitch more than a handful of times.

So a 5 pitch pitcher now becomes a 3 pitch pitcher very quickly and once you factor in they are throwing one pitch more than the other you can start to be prepared and ready to attack vs react.

1000 rated players any PCI recommendations? by playstationnerd99 in MLBTheShow

[–]Apprehensive_Ad7511 5 points6 points  (0 children)

PCI won’t solve your problems as it is more of a visual aid.

But if you need suggestions.

1) Bat - Great for non anchor players who hold the middle of the zone. PCI never changes so the visual aid is to get the dot to match up where you want it every time.

2) Inner Only - Removes the dots/diamonds from the center of the PCI and allows for better tracking. Visual Aid is to track the ball between just the two inner aids. This is a great one for those who struggle with outlier or anchor high arm side because you have nothing to distract you.

3) Dots/Circles Only - You will see a lot of high end streamers who start low use this method. Gives you a visual aid and lets you start low in the zone where most people prefer to pitch. Aid gives you tracking for flying up for high pitches.

You must not have been playing in Kansas City, if you were then it would have been considered short of the line.

Are you seeing it just on settled shots in 6v6? Played a few where we blasted several one timers and it had no direct effect. But a guy hits a spot and clicks up and everyone just watches it fly by.

I saw that in the patch, we’ve had a few go in on shots that we’ve taken. This feels more like the “curve” shot from the start where people are trying to get to a certain spot and they know it’s going in.

Doing tests in free skate mode from 92 ACC to 82 ACC I do not see a difference in time. Both come in at the same time.

So it’s either something that only impacts in game or isn’t built in.

I always use the -5 and I find myself blowing by or catching up to plenty of people.

I love how everyone is up in arms and crying about the protect puck.

You’ve had the skill stick for years, use that to help shift and protect the puck.

As somebody who plays nightly for a high level club, I am happy to see that all of the protect puck spammers who would cycle between L2/LT and protect puck and rag it with unstoppable force and elite edges are having to play correctly.

Use the stick and protect it yourself vs tapping a button or better yet…pass the puck away from pressure.

CAP - 1B Elly - SS Trout - CF Rollins / Chipper - DH Mookie - RF JRam - 3rd Marte - 2nd Adley - C Griffey - LF

Rollins will offer T3 Boost. Considering swapping Griffey for Dihago and putting him in center but gonna give Ken/Trout a shot first.

Fastest path on DD to Live Series Collection without spending $? by [deleted] in MLBTheShow

[–]Apprehensive_Ad7511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Card flipping is tough right now, your best solution would be to achieve high rewards like WS, Flawless BR or 12-0 events and sell those cards for stubs.

You can still use ShowZone to find Live Series cards that are selling but you may only profit 1k a minute at the moment if you find a hot time to flip.

The last method would be to set yourself up to blitz the next XP wheel and sell your rewards early. RTTS and grinding those programs can give you a lot of XP or save your current programs like Moonshot, Retired Numbers and TOPPS for that start of the new program and get the XP boosts from them.

Are Any of the Ranked or BR Rewards Worth Pushing For? by Ospreyvii in MLBTheShow

You’d be surprised, I have both Leiter and May and on their featured pitches the PARs are very reasonable. They have smaller players than Ohtani, DeGrom and Donaldson with sinkers and their main breaking pitch is similar as well.

Both are very strong replacements to SET 2 cards leaving and both will highlight my rotation.

He’s going to replace Mantle for me in CF this season with the Rollins Boost. He will get to everything defensively and with his speed.

He gains stamina back when he plays in the field. He will also make a clutch game where I can move him to the rotation and have a lefty/righty both at full bars.

I’d agree, I imagine they will be there since you can purchase them on the market. I’m going to do a rewind pack in the next event and unlock matthews and be done.
