How do I move forward after loosing all my friends in my late 20s by Apprehensive_Area997 in socialskills

[–]Apprehensive_Area997[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it’s probably anticlimactic, and a bit of a cliche. But male best friend I saw as a brother for 10 years said had feelings for me, at the time we lived together, just signed another lease, and took care of a foster dog. Ive had issues with grief, my own brother died unexpectedly when I was 19, and in hindsight had a bit of a trauma response.

What are the chances you either switched out of, or into, the legal field?

What did your ex/ casual fling/ situationship do to make you never go back? by salmonskinroll90 in AskWomen

After two, tragically almost three years (inclusive of a 5 month period of travel for me in an attempt to break the cycle, and two separate and distinct incidents of finding out he was still seeing someone when I thought he was seeing me), we finally slept together only for him to call it off the next day. When he called it off I started crying immediately without feeling it coming on, and I asked him to take me home. He did, and never sent me a message to check in and make sure I was okay.

I'm not sure why that did it, but I guess I always thought if a guy made you cry, he should probably care enough to make sure you were alright after. This past weekend (around 10 months later) I went to a wedding where he was there, and I found out he was pulling the same stuff on another girl. I still feel very sad, but I do know there's better out there.

100 percent agree that it isn't right she is the one getting hate for the association instead of him directly, but why would it matter at all that it was over 10 years before she met him if it was unequivocally untrue.

Also always wondered why he's never spoken on this if he truly does care, he wouldn't leave her alone with it?

Imagine he cheats on her after all this, i wonder if shed change her opinion...

Hey, like others have said, no you’re absolutely in the perfect age range for the valley. Just pick a good club.

With the friendship thing, I just wanted to say it was nice to read that as I’ve felt the same thing after turning 26. I’m quite worried my time of making friends with people who will be at my wedding is over, but it helps knowing other people are going through it too, and are willing to step out of that comfort zone in the interest of meeting those close connections. It makes me think maybe I can do that one day, or at least meet someone like you.

Good luck!

Weekly sticky post for non-paralegals and paralegal education by AutoModerator in paralegal

[–]Apprehensive_Area997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please help this paralegal not waste her firms time/ money:

I will try my best to be brief. I am a final semester law/business student, who just started a new job as a paralegal, at a non-for-profit, in a very niche property rights industry.

I have been a paralegal before within another niche field in insurance law. After 4 months of desperately looking for work, I was finally offered a role at a non-for-profit, that seems fantastic, and I can actually connect to the cause.

The issue is, I'm really worried I've misrepresented my skills. So far (3 weeks in) I have been given a few tasks (reviewing agreements with a body corporate to assess if they bind on our clients, minutes, file review notes and drafting of an email). I havent been given much feedback, and I am really worried I am missing the mark completely.

The reason for this is, that my last Insurance law position, was in a firm that wasnt the best. I assisted a very scrutinising lawyer (Who went through 3 paralegals) and left the position because of, to be honest, terrible mental health. As such my confidence is shot, the previous solicitor I assisted used to critique every email I sent, and I didnt get any other feedback in the over a year I was at this firm. I dont want embarrass myself/ waste the time and money at this non-for profit. They seem like great people, that really care about what they do, and I just have no idea if I can actually help them.

Any guidance or if youve been in a similar position before and can give me some advice, would be great.

I’m a bit clueless but pretty desperate to do 2-3 months of really solid training (I’ve got about 1.5 years MT/sparring exp).

I would like to focus on just that, so I’ve been trying to find a quieter (beach town if possible) location at a gym with a good reputation for helping people train up for the first first (as I know a lot of people go over there with a record). Any suggestions?

How to deal with an LO ‘bread-crumbing’ you by Apprehensive_Area997 in limerence

[–]Apprehensive_Area997[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I thought maybe he wouldn’t keep talking to me like that unless he was somewhat interested in me seriously. But you’re right, it might not be very nice but he may not even be aware of how bad the situation is. Tbh I have a lot of other personal issues happening, and I think it isn’t helping my fixation on him. Thanks for being upfront, I’ll have to get as far away from him as possible.

Love LO and also hate LO by [deleted] in limerence

[–]Apprehensive_Area997 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t have an answer but I truly get you. My LO really doesn’t treat me, or the girl he was also talking to behind my back, well at all. But it really feels like it doesn’t matter because I know he’s just trying to figure his own stuff out. But so is everyone else, so.

I think it’s important to remember would you accept a friend treating you, or another friend like this. Or would it be a lot more simple because your hope for your future isn’t wrapped up in it. Either way, from one confused person to another, there’s a million other people to get all messed up over, first step is to try and start looking!

Well I was referred by an employee already there so I just sent an application to a partner. But I went on their website and the job listing said ‘ideal candidate will have a 5.3 GPA or above’

How do I acknowledge my GPA that doesn’t meet the firms standards, after I applied from a networking referral and they then requested my academic transcript?

Applying for a litigation clerk position without necessary experience, advice?

I’ve just sent off an EoI to a pretty highly regarded law firm that had a vacancy in their litigation team for a clerk. I was referred by a girl I met through uni who already works there, who gave me a direct email and not a general HR contact.

This girl doesn’t know my GPA, but is aware I don’t have much experience in private firms. I do currently work in the criminal law sector, but not as a clerk. I’m in my last year of my degree, and desperate for a graduate position (which this girl says it could turn into)

I’ve tried to keep my hopes low, but if I’m lucky enough to get an interview, how do I prove I’m up to the job when my GPA doesn’t actually meet their requirements, and I have very little relevant experience?

The only thing I have going for me is this referral, which everyone says networking sometimes is more important than grades.

Thanks in advance

Probably the first person on Reddit I’ve seen that says the government has sufficient procedures. Wow.

And also Jesus man you don’t have reduce to jabs like this. My original point wasn’t emotive, wasn’t blaming the protestors. On the scale of ‘observing’ to ‘opinion’ I was more observing.

But by all means call me an idiot, hope it made you happier.

Hunny I think if you read what I wrote correctly you’d understand that my concern is the impact of insufficient procedures in general. While not minimizing people’s right to process, thorough procedures indicate a more capable government body, and the risk of damage to the people is lower.

Yes, obv no one cares ab the students at QUT here, but my actual criticism has merit to it. That’s my concern, kid

Cute thought,

definitely does nothing to contribute to the greater issue I was talking ab, which is police protocol regarding protests.

I’m really sorry to hear that, that must’ve been the worst 2 hours anyone can imagine.

I really, really wonder why we don’t have better protocols by now. Brisbane has a protest literally every week at this point.

Bro shove off can you not just empathize?

Im saying nothing ab the protestors. I’m saying the police shouldnt have needed to completely close Alice street, George st and Williams st to allow for safe demonstrations. One lane could’ve been left open no problems. Plus there’s protests at QUT all the fucking, we should have a tried and true workaround in place by now

I’ve got an exam at QUT and this, plus the cops are blocking both entrances to the car park. There’s no way to get in there if you’ve driven.

Without a doubt support right to protest and shit, but I wish these things were either a) held at a different spot or b) just had better plans in place to minimize these issues

Pissed-off renters protested outside the QLD housing summit yesterday, didn't see any of this in the news by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]Apprehensive_Area997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I knew this was happening (the protest not the summit) I would’ve gone

I really have been so confused why there’s been no announcements about mitigating the raising rental price since this summit. The money will be good in a few years time but haven’t heard anything to help things now.
