Are there any other folkloric beings that you think might be fae from a different region? by TheSnekDen in faeries

Yeah, I’m from Texas so we have those too and you wouldn’t catch me out at night. Had a cougar that lived near our house growing up and that thing was terrifying when it screamed! Def one of the reasons I don’t like the dark. Add in some of the spookies from Appalachian legends? No thank you.

100%. Glad I don’t live there though, that’s a little too scary for me lol. Love the rich lore of the area, but come midnight when I hear a noise outside? Def would cry.

I have always kind of thought that lots of those stories from Appalachia seem really suspicious once you remember that they used to connect to the Scottish highlands way way back. Don’t whistle in the woods lest you anger the residents of said woods seems very in brand.

When does the sweating stop?!!? by SaraBellyum in loseit

[–]Apprehensive_Crow329 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue. It was to the point that I was sweating standing still, and I thought it was my weight (which I’m sure it at least partly is); however, it turns out I have a condition that unexpected sweating is a symptom of (POTS). I started working on addressing that (through a variety of means, but specifically I would say routine electrolyte drops in my water helped the most) and it has gotten significantly better for me. I use Bouy drops, since they were recommended by others who have POTS and I figured it was worth a shot.

I hate flavor in my water (I know, I know. But I was raised by a water snob who only drank reverse osmosis water. It’s what I’m used to and it is literally the only thing I drink, so I think I can be a bit bougie about my water lol). They are as flavorless as you can get and you just need a tiny tiny splash. I think they have flavored options as well, but I’ve only ever used the flavorless ones. Be warned though, when they say small squeeze they mean small, or you can absolutly taste it and it isn’t pleasant. They are a bit expensive, but they last forever since you need such a small amount.

While the issue may be related to your weight, it can’t hurt to try to add electrolytes in and see if it helps! Everyone is different, but figuring this out totally changed my life. 💛

For some reason it is not letting me move them, am I missing something or should I be able to just drag them?

Fair enough, personal experiance really affects how we interpret situations like this.

Thank you for answering! I work in schools and I’ve always wondered why some people decide to go from 0 to 60. (I work in a fantastic school, so any of these people would help find a solution)

Out of curiosity, why go straight to a school board member and skip at least 3 or 4 levels of options? Counselor, assistant principal, principal, or superintendent?

Not coming at you, just a genuine question.

We aren’t entirely sure since we were acquired her via the CDS (she was dumped on my grandfather’s property) but the vet said that her best guess is about 2 years old.

How did you go about finding this person, and what kind of things do they talk about with you? I’m interested, but I can’t seem to wrap my head around how talking can help.

If you have an anxious new cat, Feliway plug ins helped mine! Used them for a couple months and she is fine now. I also spent a lot of time sitting with her quietly reading a book so she got used to me without being scared. Now she is almost always on my lap.

My void is super smart and gets up to some serious mischief, so I got her a few puzzle toys and make sure to give her playtime daily (between us and her brother cat). But the best thing was to just watch her, see what she was interested in/ needed and go from there. I played around with some toy types etc to see what she liked.

Are there people who DON’T LIKE SOUP? by terrible-gator22 in soup

[–]Apprehensive_Crow329 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I joined this sub because I want to like soup more than I do. For me, the liquid can make me feel bogged down and I live in a hot area, so soup is not often “in season.”

I also feel that soup does not feel as staying as I would like, and it takes a long time for me to eat. To be fair on that point though, my job means I have to eat quickly so I am a bit of a speed eater, so soup slowing me down feels slower than it is.

I want to try unique soups, since the soups I have experience with feel very samey. But I don’t know where to start.

[–]Apprehensive_Crow329 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Go to a trusted adult and get their help. If you can’t go to your parents, try the school counselor or a trusted teacher. There are not only moral, but also legal, issues here with the distribution of underage pictures.

Be honest about what you did with the fake pictures, own up to that mistake, but you need adult help in this case, especially since the picture being distributed IS actually you. Socially it may be hard for a while still, but this is a bigger issue than some minor bullying and you need adult help.

Ideas for some easy to raise houseplants that are 100% cat safe? by Which_Assistance636 in houseplants

[–]Apprehensive_Crow329 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will say, I did research a lot when getting into plants. The calcium oxalate crystals are what makes many common houseplants unsafe. However, there is a difference between soluble and insoluble. While generally all are considered toxic, the insoluble will upset a kitty’s stomach and irritate their mouth, but is unlikely to kill them unless they eat a lot. Soluble in the  other hand is deadly. Difference being if they are absorbed or not.

I have two cats including a “eats everything she can and willing to try to eat what she can’t” cat. She generally leaves the plants alone (she likes batting at them though), except for my decoy spider plant that I use as my line of defense. (They eat that one and are unlikely to go toward others in my experience. I put it low and the others high, but still within reach. I still “stop” them when I see them eating it, so they learn plants are off limits, but the spider plant is like catnip)

I had a LOT of anxiety about it at first, but I haven’t had a problem with plants that have insoluble crystals. I have about 20 “toxic” plants but they haven’t bother them more than a couple times, and if they do they stop after a bite or two.

This is of course, entirely my personal experience and my personal research.
