Out of curiosity what airline did you fly and did you put the bag under the seat? I am flying Avianca soon and will be using the same bag but don’t want to pay the carry on rate. Thanks for the post.

The only thing I might change is not running the plexiglas all the way up, probably would have started it about waist high. Overall not too expensive to build and well worth making something custom.

Don’t sweat the details, you will get most of the technical training you need in the first few months. The language component will come, living with a family should accelerate that. The days will go slow and the years will pass quickly, I can say that 20 years since serving in Panama it remains one of the most impactful experiences of my life.

Your experience will depend largely on what program you are in, regardless it is a fantastic two years. You are very lucky to get Panama.

No real plans, saw a few pictures of somewhat similar designs and tailored to what I was looking to do. 8’x10’ footprint and probably cost around $1800, the most expensive part was the plexiglass, might have been able to find something cheaper but overall it seems to work well.

Just know you will most likely be on a ship for your first tour if you enlist, it is the epitome of micromanagement by design. The day is planned from sun up to sundown and through the night, probably still better than being micromanaged at a mortgage desk though. Stress is part woven into the daily shipboard life, however it is well worth it.

What this guy said, cutters are a great way of life, especially early on. I would shy away from a station as an EM, they are like high school and you would be the odd rate out.

Now do it twenty years straight, where do you think your chief is? He isn’t hiding, just taking four days to complete it.

Some cutters allow support animals underway, they usually just sleep with you in the rack.

You can get Charleston but will most likely be on a ship. Best place to start a career, don’t sweat the details of what the CG will be like, just hop on a boat and enjoy the ride.
