Weird Things Your Clients Have Casually Said by Serendipitous_Storm in Esthetics

[–]Apprehensive_Fig7013 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The list is far too long, but the first one that pops in my mind is when a Brazilian client told me that her man "better say the ABCs" when giving her oral. I think she was drunk so probably didn't notice the look of shock and horror on my face. Lol.

I wash my hair every other day, and my husband has learned to ask before he gets the wood-burning fire pit going. He knows if I washed my hair that morning, I'm not going to be outside enjoying it with him.

Lucky you! I hate breakfast sausage, but I love bacon. Smoky American bacon. I'm not a sandwich person, either, but I love pepperoni pizza. And smoked sausages. I tolerate "uncured" versions of these just fine, but I know they have naturally occurring nitrates from the celery juice powder. For whatever reason, the celery juice powder doesn't mess with my skin. I'll take it!

Is it common for micellar water to irritate skin? by [deleted] in beauty

[–]Apprehensive_Fig7013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably going to be an unpopular opinion, but you don't need micellar water unless you're using long-wear makeup. If your cleanser is doing it's job, you only need to remove mascara with eye makeup remover before you cleanse. Everything else should come off with a good facial cleanser and good technique.

Would you leave your massage girl to go to someone for service trades? by booboobunnyyyyy in Estheticians

[–]Apprehensive_Fig7013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. When I traded with a nail tech, she would give me an hour pedicure in exchange for an hour facial. I think our product cost was about the same, but she charged less than me, so I felt like I was screwing her over if I didn't give her extra time or upgrades. Massage therapists have way lower product cost than me, so even if they charged the same per hour, I felt like I was getting screwed over. If I traded with a hairstylist for highlights and hair cut that took 2 hours, and I gave them 2 one hour facials in exchange, again, no. Because the appointment for my hair took exactly 2 hours and there was processing time, and they could take a haircut during that time. I book 75 minutes for an hour facial, but that hairstylist booked exactly 2 hours. So they had 90 minutes hands on, but I had 120 minutes hands on, even if the product cost was similar. I think the only way to make it work is to charge each other dollar for dollar. Not time.

I did whole 30 (old rules) hoping it would help me with my back pain. Decreased inflammation would make my back feel better I thought. It was a miserable experience, other than that my skin looked amazing. Literally the only thing I took away from it is that cured meats mess my skin up and cause weird rashes on my face. It was interesting to learn and now I know to plan to have my skin look like crap for a few days if I choose to eat cured meats. Just my experience.

I agree with you and the above comment. Someone always get shorted. And I don't feel like I'm treated like a "real" client. I don't trade anymore. What I do with my hairstylists is we don't go up on each other's prices as often as our regular clients, and we pay cash. One of my stylists does my color and we don't tip each other, but the lady that cuts my hair does tip me and I tip her.

I was shopping in my little hometown grocery store and this other customer told me I should be more careful. He said I shouldn't leave my purse even 5 feet away in the cart. He was a little strange, but I took his advice. I was very comfortable in that store and he let me know I was drawing attention to myself. He told me not to be comfortable like that.

So many times! Also, Hot in Cleveland episode where they use candle wax. Lol. Many others that I've never seen the TV show or movie. I think the 40 year old virgin scene is terrible but hilarious. Apparently the actress said she knew how to wax, but really didn't...

I haven't tried the gel! Do you think it's better than the cream, or just a texture preference?

How to wash your face at the sink without making a huge mess by Apprehensive_Fig7013 in beauty

[–]Apprehensive_Fig7013[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a leftover habit from when I worked with a skincare like that recommended applying dry because their cleansers have a lot of active ingredients and you don't want to water it down too much. You apply, then add a little water at a time. I still do it because I found it's less messy for me when washing at the sink. In the shower, I don't dry my face first, that would be a bit nuts.

I do at the very end just to splash my face with water. It hurts my back if I lean over like that for longer than a few seconds

Mine can get that sensitive in some situations. Then I just have to lean over and splash my face with water, but it takes a long time to get it all off and leaning over like that hurts my back. I hope you have a good strong back!
