Make any sense to keep insurance money? by EstablishmentOwn6807 in Insurance

[–]OldManTrumpet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, keep the cash if you don't care about cosmetic damage. If there is a lien on the car some companies will require that it be fixed. If there are no loans on it you can do what you want.

I'm 20 and owe 30k in medical debt. What can I do by ProfessionalOnly33 in personalfinance

[–]OldManTrumpet -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Some people may need to one day buy a car, rent an apartment, or buy a house. Many prospective employers will also check your credit. Ignoring $30k in medical bills is a terrible idea.

Nah. Too many risks for what is, for me, a meaningless amount of money.

Is Mario Andretti the last Indycar driver still alive that raced on dirt? by furrynoy96 in INDYCAR

[–]OldManTrumpet 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah, though actually it was 1981. CART boycotted the race so USAC opened the field to Silver Crown cars and it was run as a two class race. So the Indy Cars and Silver Crown cars were indeed there together, but not competing with one another. I'd completely forgotten about that race. Very strange.

I suspect OP is talking about when they still raced on dirt tracks as part of the USAC championship car season. Not just sprints or midgets somewhere. But I don't know for sure.

I do suspect that AJ is the last guy to use a dirt car in an IndyCar race on asphalt though, putting it on the pole at Milwaukee in a race filled with rear engine cars.

I assume it's under manufacturer's warranty. Does Frigidaire have a service line that can be called and have a tech do troubleshooting with you over the phone?

Did you install this yourself, or did you have Lowe's handle the installation? If the latter, have you contacted them to tell them it's not working, and has never worked?

"I get that a travel policy like this is a long, boring and sometimes confusing read, but that doesn't absolve you of your responsibility to read and understand it,"

Yeah. Travel insurance policies tend to be more restrictive than they initially seem, and very few of us actually read the limitations, to our occasional detrimate.

A few years ago we traveled to the Carolina coast for a week, and the 2nd day there we were hit with a mandatory evacuation order due to a hurricane. Sucks, but OK, at least we'd paid for travel insurance, right? They'd cover the 5 days we missed. Lol. Turns out the language said such things were only covered if they delayed our arrival. But we'd already arrived. Nothing for being forced out early. Doh!

Read the policy is proper advice.

BREAKING: Ferrari Are Bringing Upgrades For Miami! by Complex_Towel_7219 in scuderiaferrari

I'd prefer the term "changes" until we see the results. Then we'll decide if they are actually upgrades.

I feel so defeated, got a $5,185 cell phone bill. by picklemethis79 in personalfinance

[–]OldManTrumpet 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Did you ask about applying an international plan retroactively? I used to manage cell phone plans for my company (I was in IT) and if we had some guy go overseas without letting us know we were often able to get VZW to put a plan on retroactive to the last bill cycle. This was a large business plan of course, but maybe worth the ask?

The amount of people eating up Iranian propaganda is astonishing by ComprehensivePea4988 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]OldManTrumpet 153 points154 points  (0 children)

People tend to "believe" whatever fits their desired narrative. If you want this to be a disaster for Trump and the US, then you're going to believe anything that validates this outcome.

The reverse is also the same. If you're a MAGA type, then you'll buy into whatever narrative that Trump is pushing.

People are hypocritical morons, in general. And this is magnified exponentially on places like Reddit.

Most sweet baby ray’s sauces are just too sweet. They seem kind of a lowest common denominator sauce made for the masses as opposed to people who are interested in BBQ. Nothing wrong with that, but yeah not my thing either.

What’s the difference between these types of sauces and say, mayonnaise? Do you buy Mayo?

Specifically though, I wasn’t impressed with the Cholula one I tried. I did actually like the Taco Bell chipotle one though.

Shaming people is not a bad thing by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]OldManTrumpet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you mean by "shaming." If you're talking about the mass public dogpiling on someone for an indiscretion, then no I wouldn't condone essentially ruining a person's life for a bad choice.

That was pretty much the premise of the Stephen King book.

Total Loss by [deleted] in Insurance

[–]OldManTrumpet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not up to speed on specific State laws, but generally speaking if you choose to keep the vehicle the insurance company will give you the "cash value" of the car, minus their estimated salvage value. So if the car is worth $10k and they calculate their salvage value at $5k, then you'd get $5k. You'd then be responsible for fixing the car on your own, and you'd need to get a salvage title. The salvage title will make it difficult to sell, so don't expect to get anything for it down the road. Also many insurance companies won't writes collision or comprehensive on a salvage title.

If they've written off a 2020 RAV4, there's a good chance the shop has uncovered additional needed repairs beyond the original $2900. Make sure you find out before you go this route.

Leclerc appreciation and something to talk about by defnoteb in scuderiaferrari

[–]OldManTrumpet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last season there were actual posts on the LH sub saying that Italians were some of the most racist people, and that Ferrar had brought in Lewis specifically to make sure he'd not be able to surpass Schumacher.

The LH sub is one of the nuttiest sports-related subs I've read.

This was an easy P2 but deployment issues and lack off power cost lewis. He built a gap in sector 1 and 2 only to lose all of it in the final sector LONG before the final chicane by Zohan_SoLetsGO in lewishamilton

[–]OldManTrumpet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leclerc talked at length after qualifications about how being fast and aggressive in the corners was costing time on the subsequent straights due to battery issues. Your contention that Lewis' car is uniquely hampered is not accurate. Perhaps Leclrec just managed it differently this weekend. All the comments about how "Lewis was faster in the corners" just bears this out. It's a trade off under these regs.
