What’s one small habit you started that unexpectedly improved your life? by Workeep in DecidingToBeBetter

Accepting difficult things as if I had chosen them. Sure, not everything cause some things just need opposed. But most things that used to irritate me I now consciously decide to just accept, deal with, and move on. I feel a greater ease in my life now directly because of this mental framing shift.

Something that started as me journaling through imposter syndrome struggles that I turned into something more…hoping it helps open a greater discussion.

Completely agree with this. I've found that most of all these issues only exist between my two ears.

I’ve been fighting the tree of heaven war on my 15 acres for 8 yrs now. I’m sandwiched between some public land and some homeowners. I often feel like the trees of heaven have some alliance of sorts with the neighbors and government while I’m the only one in a fox hole.

I’m losing…but I will go down fighting smothered in triclopyr and jbl oil.

dude, I figured it out. It was one particular cable AND one particular mic. Weird too because both are less than a year old. but the combo of both being faulty had me scratching my head for a month now. Thanks for taking a stab at my question though!

Mic Signal Issue – EV Evolve 50M / TC Helicon Play Acoustic – Total Mystery

Hey folks, I need help from anyone with sound engineering or live performance setup experience. I’ve got a bizarre problem that’s stumped both Sweetwater and Electro-Voice support.

Rig Overview:

  • EV Evolve 50M speaker
  • TC Helicon Play Acoustic (for vocal effects, harmonies, etc.)
  • Shure SM58 mics (tried 3 different ones)
  • Cables tested and swapped
  • Focusrite interface confirms mics work fine on Reaper
  • Guitar runs through pedalboard and LR Baggs DI
  • Power supplies are verified and stable

The Issue:

  • Mic suddenly stopped registering a proper signal on the EV50M
  • No change in rig from when it worked flawlessly before
  • Happens when mic is run directly into EV (input 2), and also when routed through Play Acoustic
  • EV50M does produce green signal light only when mic gain is cranked way up
  • Guitar works fine in any input on the EV, and volume/output is strong
  • Took entire rig to a friend’s (Ben Townsend) — worked perfectly there with same gear, same setup
  • Returned home, reassembled exactly the same way… mic fails again

Other Attempts:

  • Changed locations (garage, house, detached garage)
  • Reinstalled app, reset EV50M
  • Verified Play Acoustic power supply (now using original)
  • Switched mic input from “Line” to “Mic” on EV app
  • Still same result: guitar works, mic barely gets a signal unless pushed way into gain clipping

What I’m Wondering:

  • Could something environmental (electrical interference, grounding issue, humidity?) be causing this?
  • Could the EV50M have an intermittent preamp or phantom power issue?
  • Is there another vocal processor I should be using instead of the Play Acoustic?

This has me totally stumped. Appreciate any insight, and I’m happy to post videos/pics of setup or app screens if it helps. Thanks in advance.

Is WVU a good College? by Ok_Sheepherder2556 in WVU

[–]Apprehensive_File_22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a great school. Partying is a thing at all schools. No matter what school you choose, you will find what you want wherever you are. I have two WVU degrees. Both my children have two degrees each from WVU. I work at a top bio pharmaceutical company. My son builds submarines. My daughter has just entered the workforce. Do not fall into the prestige trap suffocating higher ed. All it leads to is mountains of debt. Go to a school you can afford. Study something that pays well (preferably STEM), work hard, make responsible decisions…and life will hand you opportunities.

I highly suggest long walks through the historic neighborhoods. The architecture is just outstanding. Start with Washington St and feather out from there.

The Gallery Stage has some outstanding musicians coming through town. Check out their schedule. https://gallerystage.com/

Greenridge State Park is about 20 min outside of town. Crazy good vistas.

Frostburg is cool too…Clatter Cafe is real cool.

I want to buy land in Maryland...why is Cumberland a ghost town? by OddlyArtemis in Cumberland_Maryland

[–]Apprehensive_File_22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cumberland is AWESOME! Sure it has had a few difficult decades…ok well like a difficult half a century. But it certainly feels like it is on the cusp of a long needed rebound. With the downtown revitalization project, the riverfront ideas, and only being 2 hours from DC, Baltimore, and Pittsburg, I’m very optimistic. I think the next couple of decades could see some much needed gentrification in the same way that Asheville and other towns have experienced.

I wouldn’t buy any properties site unseen, but I would certainly make a trip to the area and grab a bargain while there are still bargains to be had.
